102.9 DRC is finally streaming!

Someone have the direct streaming URL for winamp or other players?
The audio is poor as received here. It sounds as if they're using a 48K sample rate which is NOT compatible with all sound cards. A 44.1K sample rate with a 128K transmitted bitrate would be compatible with nearly ALL systems without any loss of quality on any system.

I speak from experience, having set up a number of streams, including my own show. (no shameless plugs here)

Also, what's with the pastel, non-scrollable, screen?

If it were my call I'd do it in-house, not doing it "outhouse", relying on some other party such as "crystalmedianetworks.com" or some other.

And what's with Kool & the Gang's "Ladies Night" associated with the "Saturday Night Fever" cover as I type this? And Peter Framton with some other unknown cover? And now I'm hearing Bruce's "Cover Me" with a blank labeled 45 displayed. Now, credit where it's due, the "Bat Out Of Hell" cover! But that's a no-brainer.

Whoever set this up needs to GET ON THE CASE, big time. A definate "outhouse" job!

I'm getting fantastic audio. Every once in a while a cover is wrong, but that happens all the time with any streaming company, iTunes, anything.

As for farming it out vs. doing it in-house, I absolutely agree with farming out the streaming, if for no other reason than SoundExchange reporting. The resources to pull together proper SoundExchange reports in house would be incredibly prohibitive. I know, I've done it. It's all about resources... using a streaming provider is "set it and forget it."

I have it added on my Logitech Squeezebox and sounds great!

Guess I have something LOCAL to listen to at the office now. I was listening to WCBS out of New York, but now can enjoy local Hartford radio. :)

I just checked it here. The audio sounded OK for me. The album covers and song titles worked fine. Between that audio and my headphones, it sounded like it was about 12 to 13 seconds behind with the digital delay.

How did you do that? You must have an direct URL for putting in. What's the direct URL from the stream?

B.t.w. it's not the URL I gave, that's the popup player.

It sounds good, better than some other streams from CC or CBS Radio. More FM-like. I guess they are using the over the soundprocessing, direct from the soundprocessor.

Has it occurred to anyone here that they are still working out technical issues? After all, they have not formally announced that the streaming is up and running, and there is no link on the stations website yet.

I can accept that. Bugs happen.
I would seriously suggest for best results that they use 44.1K sample rate and 128K bitrate. If they want some original 45 label scans for their graphics, I might be able to help. If they prefer incorrect or bogus CD images like WCBS-FM, that's their business.

There are two streams - a 64k MP3 stream and a 64k AAC stream, both in stereo. The MP3 stream sounds like it's underwater due to coding artifacts, but I guess they want it there for compatibility issues. The AAC stream sound good, not overprocessed but it's definitely there.

The album art is usually pulled from a 3rd party, like Amazon.com in the case of TuneIn. DRC has no control over that.

I wish they'd stream the HD2. It's such a shame they do such a great job programming WDRC-HD2, but no one can hear it.

Once, I was listening to KOOL 101 on TuneIn, and while Jay And The Techniques' "Keep The Ball Rollin'" was playing, the app displayed the cover of "The Black Album" by Jay-Z.

Just read that the stream was, I think, a "test stream" and it was not released publicly by DRC-FM. They are working on the issues at the moment as I type, but I assume that the DRC-FM stream will happen officially! Stay tuned...

Grahame Winters mentioned in another thread that the stream will soon be officially online they are just fixing a few things before making it official. I can't wait for it to come back.

It died yesterday when I was listening... I think the last song played was Papa was a Rolling Stone.

It wasn't my Jay-Z comment that got the ball rollin' on this, was it? :-X

Hey guys, I'm happy to report the stream will be "official" and online at drcfm.com in the next 24 hours. You can also download a cool mobile app for your smartphone and take us with you that way.

Thanks for your patience while we worked out the bugs...!

I hope the patience pays off in the end... this is great news for those of us outside Connecticut! :)

Sounds great. Is this an off the air feed? It sounds like the same off air processing.

Got off a week long cruise on board the "Oasis of the Seas" and am now sitting in my hotel room at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida waiting for my plane back to CT tomorrow and found this thread and was happy to see the stream is back up. :)

Sounds great (although the selective service PSA's get annoying)

Rockin Ron just gave me a shout out on the All Request Saturday Night show. :) Thanks Ron! :)
