"102.9 KYUU. Well as KFRC is lacking in getting their act together, maybe Entercom will 'bring back' KYUU somewhere on the Bay Area dial! And do it RIGHT!"
Er...except that Entercom doesn't own KBLX - Inner City Broadcasting does. Are you perhaps thinking of 102.1, and revisiting that old wish that KDFC dump that old-skewing but fairly high rated classical format to be yet another low rated pop music station?
Not going to happen anytime soon - I would never say never, but I would say that it won't happen unless and until it's clear to Entercom that the ratings for KDFC have tanked and there is no future in classical music radio. KDFC is often cited as the 2nd highest rated classical music station in the country - the first being the New York Times owned station in NYC. Saul Levine got a lot of bad publicity for dropping the classical format in LA, but the ratings for K-Mozart were horrible, so he could just tell his critics he wasn't in the business for charity, and ask them to do a reality check.
As for bringing back KYUU -as we've learned from 106.9/KFRC, you can bring back a music format with high-value call letters and spew a lot of hype about the "Spirit of..." (the original) , but unless you back it up with personalities and content, it doesn't mean much. Most of KYUU's great roster of personalities have either passed away (Rick Shaw), or fled the business in bitter disappointment (Jeff McNeal). I guess you could hire Don Bleu to do mornings, but you'd have to pay him a gazillion dollars, and he's so ubiquitous on Bay Area radio that nobody would care. Besides, he's talking about retiring anyway.
