102.9 NOW

From Chris Jagger's FB page:

Chris Jagger:
So my good news is that starting Monday I'll be the new morning guy at 102.9 NOW. Station got a new name but same format. I'll be working with Tara. She's been there doing local breaks during the syndicated Valentine show and she was also doing mid days.
The format stays the same. Lots of music and us from 5-9 starting Monday.
This will be a lot different from what I was doing the last 5 years on the air but I'm excited to get back on the air and have some fun.
We'll be giving away iPads all week at 7:10 so I hope you win one!

Dallas NOW has three CHRs!?!?

MIX 102.9 just updated their format this morning to 102.9 NOW. Looks like they still play some of the same stuff but most of it is newer. Closing the gap between them and KISS I guess. 1029now.com

Good for Jagger. He was always a good alternative when KTCK when to break. Even when 105.3 changed to the Fan his show wasn't that bad despite a lack of sports authority on the crew.

Why would they need to close a gap? They're both clear channel stations.

I'm seriously confused on what Clear Channel is trying to do here. Sounds more like sister stations with basically the same format.

Its sounds like its going to be a KISS for the older folks. but, im glad to see chris back on the air!

Sounds like they are doing what KSOC/KBFB and KKDA-FM/KRNB have done for years. You have you kiddie station(KKDA-FM, KBFB, KHKS) and your adult station(KSOC,KRNB, KDMX).

I knew something was up with KDMX "Mix 102.9" in recent months as they secretly tweaked their radio format to almost sound like their sister station "106.1 Kiss FM".

R.I.P. "Mix 102.9" that I knew.

There goes one of my fav. hot ACs. It's not the same. That will make 2 Mix stations at 102.9 go. KMVX at 102.9 but called Mix 103 in Twin Falls, ID is leaving the airwaves on May 24th.

Maybe. Might also serve as a deterrent to keep CBS from flipping KRLD-FM to CHR or Adult CHR.

Why did KVIL's numbers take such a huge tumble downward during March? They almost didn't make the top 15!

Yawn. After cutting loose Tony Zazza, then Victoria Snee, trying to save money and do a piped-in morning show, I guess the ratings fell flat. (Surprised, CC?) The "Mix" moniker is ancient now...102.9 took it on in May, 1991. There's still a Mix in Houston, but no word on whether it goes or stays or if it's gone already. I don't think anyone will really care either way. I'd just love a peek into one of those meetings where the 20-something PD meets with the local beancounters and the GSM and tries to "create" a format that will be safe, cheap and sellable...based on textbook knowledge and surfing the web for what the other o-and-o's in the chain are doing. I am glad, though, for Jagger. Me, I still wouldn't go out and buy anything that requires monthly payments, though.

BTW, I still call it "Magic 102.9." ::)

Other than changing morning shows Monday, nothing but they name changed. They ditched 80s music a long time ago. They pretty much jettisoned the bulk of the 90s and other gold months ago. The voice work/imaging sounds unchanged other than dubbing "102-9 Now" over "Mix 102-9."

At least from the overall numbers, ratings for KDMX have been as good as they have ever been.

The "Mix" moniker is ancient now...102.9 took it on in May, 1991. There's still a Mix in Houston, but no word on whether it goes or stays or if it's gone already.

I'm not sure why CBS would change the "Mix" handle on KHMX in Houston because Clear Channel changed KDMX's handle in Dallas.

I doubt it would be different than what any meetings over the last 35 years involving programming the AC formats of 102.9 have been. Regardless of AC variant, 102.9 has been boring, non-offensive background music for housewives and working women. KMGC stunk just as much as KDMX has stunk in terms of providing anything that wasn't safe and "sellable." But that is what their audience wants...

Old man syndrome...There's a reason why there are websites, facebook pages, etc. devoted to KTCK or old stations like KZEW, but not KMGC or any format the 102.9 facility has ever had in this market.

Are they supposed to play U2, Rob Thomas, Sister Hazel etc.?
