102.9 --What are the options?

Seriously.. What are the format options for this station???? ::)

Hispanic?
Pirate radio?
Hip-Hop?
True Oldies on this frequency as well?
Classic country?
Classic hits?
A REAL new rock station? (And I don't mean the same 16 songs from 1995 with an occasional new Nickelback song to call yourselves new)

They did a flip-flop and kept the KKND calls. They ID as KKND-FM Belle Chasse, New Orleans. But at this point to me, looks like Citidel is low on options. And correct me if I'm wrong but I think it was RFLA that said they have to cease the Old School format on 102.9 by the first of July.

This time it'll be KMNT "Mint Julip" and it will be all the great songs of the south from the late 1800's. Hasn't ever been done before and it's yet another Citadel format of brilliant creativity and commitment to the community. It will not be consulted by LBJ, though it's understood that he has expressed his "interest and surprise" over the proposed content.

well i have an interesting proposition to those operating 102.9 why not make it all sportswith fox sports radio as your package along with a predominance of local sports talk intertwined with that just a thought i mean with 1280 screwing up and going all gospel and 1350 going espn radio dont you think this is the time and station to make this happen

According to the filing with the FCC the date they have to be out is September 1st, so that would probably be sometime in August at latest...

But yes it's sad when KXOR Thibodaux has New Orleans and Gonzales people calling for requests because the one " Rock of New Orleans" will play the same weezer, STP, Nirvana and at least one song that is recent recurrant it seems all the time... I thought the 90s and now thing bombed at KKND on 106.7.. They would need a station closer to 97.9 WCPR, but I'd rather for a real buyer to pick up 104.1 and make that flip than Citadel.

Supposedly, they are supposed to be running Spanish or at least that was planned for the HD2 signal that they sent to the HD radio people about 3 years ago (I know as it lists 106.7 as Modern rock still) and that wouldn't be hard on that signal to do with the hispanic influx into the parish....

Even though us "country rednecks" would love classic country, it's a format more for something that could hit the suburbs as someone pointed out.. a format better suited actually to 106.1 than 102.9

102.9 may take the oldies channel format from 106.1 and allow it to flip to something else as the oldies signal doesn't cover the 504 like it should be.

I know we will have at least one or two say AAA but that wouldn't you aim more at affluent listeners who would probably live on the northshore?

But anyhow.. apparently FCC granted the application today to move to spectrasite on Behrman Highway so as soon as the duckies are in a row, and everything is moved, then we will hear a new format....

But one funny thing.. we've never heard a peep from the wolf Djs.. anyone know what happen to them? As interim would be to run sat fed or even a no Dj country station till you debut a new format with announcement...

Hello all! I'm Jeremy and I was a part-time DJ on 106.7 The Wolf. I'm still here in the N.O. metro; Harvey to be exact. I do miss being on the air again. It was fun while it lasted, but Trapper had to get home to Dallas to tend to family and all. According to his MySpace page a few weeks back, he's enjoying being home and is taking a break from radio right now. I will say I had a lot of fun, and Trapper was the best and most genuine PD I've worked for. He let us be ourselves on the air, and allowed us to do our show in our own manner.

Jason Peavy quit just a few weeks before the format switch. I'm not sure about the others, but if I get wind of where they're at, I will pass it along.

Currently, I still work part-time at Starbucks and attend UNO full-time. There, I'm a senior in my last semester and work in the UNO Film Production department.

I worked with Trapper John when I built 106.7 KKND's TV spots back in October (right before they flipped to the Wolf.) He was definitely a class act and even let me rant for a while on how I felt about losing the End! :)

whispers told me 102.9 going hip-hop to create some comp for Q93.....

Gerry with all due respect, I hope your whispers are wrong. For 102.9 to compete with Q93 with their signal coverage is crazy. I mean Q already has a lock on the market. Anyway we'll find out at 10;29 on July 3.

It may depend on where the antenna gets located. If they get some height they won't need so much power to cover the New Orleans metro pretty well. If the programming is good, they could threaten Q, or at least make a sizeable dent.

the go down 200 feet but upgrade by 13kw to make up for the height loss. But lose signal to the west

Should provide same coverage as a mainly 504 area station only....

However I agree and if they going hip hop ala KNOU, they will have to do more than the half- donkeyed attempts of late Citadel has been doing in NOLA.... Get the people from WEMX from Baton Rouge to probably program it would be my guess.

Yes, probably a post by me... According to their Construction permit, they move to the Spectrasite tower at 3210 Old Behrman Highway about half way up actually.

they go from roughly 600 feet to 400 feet but gain the power to keep coverage up, but the station will be directional protecting the west

If they want to be serious about taking listeners from Q, they should go after WBOK-AM's CJ Superstar Morgan. He built Q's morning audience and could probably steal their LOCAL morning audience from the satelite feed currently existing. It could be his chance of getting even with Q for dumping his salary.

It would be the ultimate revenge, but would he want to really dump his current gig at a African American owned station to go back playing corporate politics?

Problem is, Q's ratings have not suffered from the change. If they went that route, I think he'd make a dent, but it wouldn't hurt Q in the long run. I mean, it's not like CJ is putting WBOK on the map, is he?

Other than a write up in a newspaper most his former listeners don't read, No advertising of him being back, plus him being on AM is why no Buzz about him and no ratings.

However he is with a company that may be willing to support him (I'm going by what Bakewell has done with his properties and investing) , not as well off as he was maybe at Clear Channel or Citadel , but I think hes at a company that won't throw away everyone cause ratings are down also.

Bakewell needs to publicly market his station... when he does.. then lets see.
