We all know local is the best way to go in morning on ALL formats, but when there is no money for talent syndication is the way to go. Rickey Smiley Morning Show fits 102 JAMZ demo way better than Steve Harvey did. Rickey's show is Hip-Hop focused with some hit R&B. I've listened to both JAMZ and POWER and I must admit both stations are targeting 2 different audiences. POWER isn't exactly playing "all Hip-Hop" but thats how Cox markets its Rhythmics in cities with Urban competition. JAMZ on the other hand (according to yes.com) is your typical Hip-Hop and R&B station catered to African Americans.johnknapik said:Ricky Smiley and Steve Harvey are both a bad fit for 102 Jamz. The station boasts all day long how they play real hip-hop... so you hear Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, and Plies. Then they run a morning show that is tailored for an entirely different demographic (older African Americans who don't listen to Hip Hop). Rickey or Steve would work much better on a station like WCFB.
Someone questioned in another thread as to why WPYO is beating 102 Jamz. WPYO has a broad listener base because of the diversity in the music and jocks. 102 Jamz seems to target an audience who would sooner download the hottest Lil Wayne mixtape from MixtapeTorrent.Com than to be caught listening to the edited version on the radio.
I listen to both stations equally except in the morning when I prefer the music and local flavor of WPYO.

But maybe the syndicated morning shows are easier to sell to the national buyers, and the attractions...
