102 Jamz Is Back

Excellent move.

I need to give Audacy some credit. Their format moves over the past couple years have been very good.

Big 103 Boston, WTDY Philly, Power 96 Miami, Live 105 San Francisco and now 102 Jamz. The rebrand of 98.7 in DFW has been successful, and they also appear to have largely fixed KROQ (to my surprise). I also liked the decision to give WINS an FM simulcast on 92.3.

I couldn't help but notice yet another corporate radio press release where the term "iconic" was used, though. 🤮

Audacy must have read the other thread where I called them out for not "beating" IHeart to flipping. (See "Retro" thread.) 😅
Now to await IHeart to make any changes to "104.5 The Beat", & possibly even Cox jumping in on this action with the Alternative format now vacant in this market. They did it before with "X107.3" on a translator a while ago.
Finally, some excitement in Orlando radio, & a welcome change, as I enjoy Classic Hip Hop & Throwbacks myself. However, now I have to make slight adjustments to my own radio show to not sound like them. 😅

Do you think Cox errrrrr CMG will blow up the WDBO simulcast for alternative? Or WDBO goes somewhere else first?

WJRR will benefit from this. Those 2 stations played quite a bit of the same music.
Maybe WTKS could go back to alt/new wave on weekends and overnights.

That will never happen. If alt rock didn't work on a full powered station, it's not going to work on an HD subchannel (96.5 HD 2) with translator (107.3). That would also put talk/news 580 back as a stand alone AM.
And FWIW if memory serves me correctly, alt rock was tried on the 107.3 translator being fed by 94.5 HD 2 a number of years ago.
Now if this new 102 jamz tweaks their format to include newer music and that eats away at 104.1 HD 2 & 104.5's ratings......

I was just thinking about you !!!!!!!

That will never happen.

Which part are you referring to? I am skeptical either part would occur, but DJ Mo was making a suggestion and i was trying to get some additional clarity.

For what it is worth, there probably is enough market in Orlando for alternative to reside on a translator.

I think history might repeat itself with WDBO going back to 96.5FM, & put back Alternative as "X107.3" again. No website registrations needed, if they didn't let it expire from years ago for both stations.
96.5FM has been tanking in ratings, so they might be next with any changes in this domino effect.

These are only my predictions, & not of this website or any radio conglomerate. I'm basically just a non-commercial talent in this market, but it looks like I've been spot on so far with my knowledge. And I did it without seeing those website registrations. 😁
At the moment, I'm trying to piece together what IHeart will do with "104.5 The Beat" & possibly WJRR...

Glad to see them back and the flip at 4:07 (the area code)!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish they went have went currents and throwbacks! Social media is definitely happy for this move and excited!!!!!! IMG_7558.jpeg

Definitely looking forward to hearing Smilez & Southstar (shown in the pic above), DJ Magic Mike, & maybe even lesser known QSR on 102 Jamz, if they want to be more local & not be just another generic Classic Hip Hop & Throwback station with "102 Jamz" slapped on.

Well well well.... they did exactly what I suggested when I created the other thread on June 18. Now as far as all this talk about where new rock ends up... it doesn't. As I said in that post, Orlando is no longer a new rock market and Cox isn't blowing up established brands to repeat the same mistakes of the past. I'll be curious if Star 94.5 loses any listeners over the next few months as they might be the one that shares the most audience with the throwback format.

I thought my radio was broken earlier when I was scanning the band and heard rap on 101.9 and even the same voiceover guy from the OG 102 JAMZ!!!! Love it man.

I understand they put 102 Jamz because of 103.1 format changes but why go back to 90's 2000's jamz?
That just makes those artist bigger and harder to young artist to make it in the hip hop scene harder
are there any other stations were they play alternative other than 101.1 hd3?
Why is 103.1 keep getting sold over and over?

The FCC approved today the call sign change from WQMP back to WJHM. Nice touch for completeness to restore the old calls from the first "102 Jamz" run.
