The Point continues to perform well 25-54 and that happens in big part to the programming in my opinion. The way I always regarded the Point musically is to think of them as the Planet Radio of a couple of decades ago (Alternative) which is why you don't hear Christopher Cross or Juice Newton or any of the traditional pop hits.
There will never be agreement about playlist content or its' tightness. Everyone has an opinion and I've always subscribed to the less is more philosophy. Many people often comment how they want expanded playlists but time and time again it's been demonstated that large playlists don't translate into higher numbers. And I agree. Radio listeners get uncomfortable very quickly if the sound is all over the map.
It's very easy to switch stations nowadays especially in the car. Damn, now I can even do it from my steering wheel. And so it's more critical than ever that the right songs be chosen and rotated. Playlists do need to be refreshed and that does not happen as often as I would like. Again, not adding MORE songs but replacing songs periodically with a similiar sounding song is the way to go.
Actually, I give kudos to Cox Radio. If you recall, the Point dropped significantly in the ratings when the Eagle was born. But they stayed the course and through careful selection and rotation of the music, the Point has not only improved but it has differentiated itself from Rock 105 and Eagle and that was not an easy accomplishment. Programming can make you or break you.
