It depends. Audacy is still a very local oriented company, even after attempting to do some internal syndication during covid. They dropped it mainly because it didn't work. They didn't have the infrastructure to do it well, and the internal syndication led to lower ratings and revenue. Even after going through bankruptcy, their business model hasn't changed. They have more local programming and depend on local sales more than Cumulus or iHeart.
The Wolf has tweaked the music. They used to mix in quite a variety of Country songs from the 2000’s and 1990’s. Now the vast majority of songs are currents or recurrents. They are only playing around 2 older songs per hour.
I also heard a song by pop artist Teddy Swims and a recent one by Taylor Swift. I believe those would not be played by most Country stations.
Perhaps they’re aiming for a younger audience?

Taylor has ten years of country hits, and Teddy has worked with Thomas Rhett. Teddy performed on the CMA Awards last year.

Perhaps the decline in overall ratings is also a factor in changing the music mix.
They're not going to improve their 6+ numbers by catering to a younger demo. But by doing so, they may attract different advertisers than the other stations in their cluster,
Smith's duet with Lainey Wilson, "Nice to Meet You," got regular airplay on SiriusXM's The Highway a few months back. (I think it may not have been an actual duet but merely Wilson's vocals added to Smith's hit long after it was originally recorded, with the singers never in the same studio together.) I recall that former New York Country station WNSH briefly tried adding a few pop songs into the rotation. That did not last more than a few weeks.

But I don’t think many Country Stations are spinning Stargazing. As the Wolf recently started focusing on current Country hits, and not playing much stuff that is more than a year or two old, perhaps this is a way of expanding the playlist a bit. It appears the DJ’s never make any mention of the non-Country pop songs they’ve recently started airing.
I am 73 and listen online.There are many,many places to hear Country Gold these days.The Wolf is fine ---- they were only bringing in the older songs to attract listeners who had to go elsewhere to get their Country.In Eastern Suffolk,96.1 plays some older music.
