103.1 to loose its "energy"

With the new moring show coming (from fm96) I've heard liners saying "103-1" Which leads me to believe they will finally ditch the name "energy" which I think is a good thing since the name does'nt fit the format AT ALL! Are they changing formats?

Yep. But what? Can't be another rocker...they've got too many now.

Judging from the playlists, i'd say just like CING .. they lost their energy long time ago..

should be called lame 103.1 now.. and probably is by it's former core audience

Magic 103.1?...just brainstorming sister names (Magic 106.1 Guelph, for example)...or will it really be a whole new station?...stay tuned!
______________

Magic 106.1 in Guelph/Kitchener is a hot AC station. Maybe B103, like sister B101 in Barrie or 103.1 The Peak, like 95.1 The Peak in Collingwood, 40km west of Barrie. They'll continue its hot AC format, BTW.

Corus's hot AC stations are:
CFHK London
CIMJ Guelph/Kitchener (Magic 106.1)
CIQB Barrie (B101)
CKCB Collingwood (Peak)

Maybe Corus might move the alternative format of FM96 to 103.1 as The Edge (like Toronto's Edge, and removing all of the classic active rock artists such as Aerosmith, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, etc.), while FM96 could become a hot AC/CHR format.
Edited by PassDutch on 08/11/05 10:14 PM.

FM96 to a CHR? 103.1 The Edge? The Hawk is Classic Rock, FM96 is newer rock with some older stuff in. Where would the Edge fit in there?

Back in the late 90s, 103.1 was an alternative rock station. That idea didn't last long, maybe a year or so....but I can remember Gonzo from 97,7 being on PM drive.

Thanks for the recall. I actually drew a blank on what the Hawk (103.1 at the time) sounded like...I was actually listening more to K 104 giving me more back then. "K104 gives you more!...300 songs a day, 300 reasons to listen."

I can see one of two things happening to CFHK-FM. One would be that it becomes a JACK format, which London doesn't yet have. The other is that it returns to its old country format. Country is very popular in London, so Corus might opt to compete with Standard's CJBX-FM, which is in first place overall in the London area. CFHK, which had a country format years ago as CHLO 1570 and later on 103.1 FM in the 90s, might call itself K-103.

I wonder if the CRTC will force Corus to operate a studio for CFHK out of St. Thomas and have more content local to St. Thomas, where the station is actually licensed to. The CRTC did the same to CKDK-FM Woodstock, which was operating as a London station until sometime last year.

I believe that because there is already a Bob FM in the London market, that 103.9 will NOT become Jack (in corus's case, Joe or Dave) because that's not a wise move...if it were, then Victoria would have gotten a BOBfm instead of Kool, even though there's already a Jack there.

I also do not see a K103, but the return of K-104, giving you more, would be nice...nice, but still doubtful. K103 doesn't have the same catchy ring to it, but, with a little creativity, perhaps something ryming with three will give the listener 300 songs a day, with 300 reasons to listen?

The CKDK format has already changed enough times over the past decade; it is confusing for listeners. It is just in the past couple years I've become used to The Hawk being on CKDK. K103 though...the 3 makes the "300 songs a day" thing work better.

I'm open to a lot of things, except More FM...more value, more service! But I wouldn't expect that in a competitive radio market like London.

Buzz off. FM96 is alternative with the older active rock artists played there. I've listened to FM96 when I was there, and I LOVED THAT ROCK STATION! FM96 sounds similar to The Fox in Vancouver.
Edited by PassDutch on 08/13/05 09:22 PM.

Buzz Off?

This comes from you, the man that declared that 91.5 would NEVER go CHR-pop. You do recall that, right? The FM96 signal has been clearly audible to me for the past 12 years...and for some of those years I listened to it very regularily.

It was also you that claimed that FM was hard rock, ignoring that it also plays Tegan & Sara and other "light-alternative" musicians.

I know exactly what FM96 is dood. Tell me? Where do you live? How often do you listen, or do you make your assumption based on a short period of streaming?

I can't see FM 96 going anywhere. It's a staple for London and has been there for decades.

I never even knew the Buzz was on! Dammit! I keep missing theese things!

(actually, replace the word Buzz with F***, and it's more fun to say that in a bar when a woman says it to you...lucky for me, I've never had a woman say that to me there.)

Getting back to the topic of FM 96, "London's best Rock"...'Nuff said.
______________

Yes, it's a rock station, and in the late 90s was a better alt rocker than CFNY in Toronto (in my opinion)

I just don't get PassDutch who has all these theories. The 91.5 theory, the London theory, now the 96X theory (really, their hot AC, go check the playlist of the station. Rhianna, Crazy Frog and DHT are hot AC

I never knew that when I was working the club that I was spinning Hot AC

A user on another board has pretty much fugured out it'll be "Fresh-fm".

Will that be the actual name?...or could they have another name ready?
Sort of like how NewCap's Planet in Ottawa signed on as Hot 89nine instead...or how about another time when the Corus company led people to believe Buzz 640 was coming to Toronto, but instead Mojo came (and went)

Nahh..they haven't registered anything else, and they did it too soon to the launch to be worth trying to mess with people.
