103.3 WPRB adds WOLD-LP 10.7 to their HD3

Just noticed it last night, pretty odd that an LPFM is on an HD3 signal but the music is great so I'm not complaining.

I don't subscribe to RBR.com, but WOLD-LP made their news feed - called it a "gift and fold." Per the APA dated 12/11/20 for W236CT/Edison (95.1), owner Best Media wishes to gift W236CT to SRN, licensee of WOLD-LP (107.9). In turn, SRN will surrender their license, and then receive the gift ($50K). I presume this is to relieve interference with another of Best's translators, W300CZ/Evansville. Each of these stations' programming currently airs on WPRB-HD3 (the feeder, I presume). RBR characterizes this as "the school's plan," meaning licensee Princeton Broadcasting Service of Princeton University.

They want to eventually move the 107.9 translator to the World Trade Center. However, WOLD is a thorn in their side blocking the move. The 107.9 translator was forced to translate WPRB-HD3 to have the same audio as WOLD, or else WOLD would get the translator shut down.
By getting WOLD to surrender their license and operate only on 95.1, that leaves 107.9 clear and the 107.9 translator can then hop closer to the World Trade Center. The 95.1 translator has more power than WOLD, plus it can be a full blown commercial station.
WOLD has lots of leverage here.

How does this make WOLD a full blown commercial?
WOLD LP will turn in its license, good by non commercial LPFM. They now have a commercial band translator being fed by a commercial band station licensed as a commercial station Viola, they can run commercials!

I'm assuming they have to pay WPRB to run the station on the HD-3. I can't image they are doing it for free.

Of course they pay for the HD3.
That's right. WPRB's HD capability was apparently paid for by the original programmer of the HD2 channel. WPRB has monetized their considerable signal while maintaining the commercial-free stature of the main channel programming.
