103.5 HD-2

Will 103.5 HD-2 Country ever add any personalities to their station? They have a decent playlist, but it's nothing more than a "jukebox". Any thoughts on this HD-2 station or any others for that matter?

I have an HD radio and listen to WKTU-HD2 at times. There are many commercials for HD radio but they do not promote any kind of programming. Country Music on WYNY did not do all that terribly in the ratings, but that format does not seem to attract advertisers. Clear Channel is not making any money on any of its HD2 stations. Thus, I don't believe there are any immediate plans to develop the programming.

That's precisely the false stereotype that hurts a great format. It's like saying that the typical rap-music listener is a gun-toting criminal, which is ridiculous.

Stereotype? No- it is statistics. You have got to be kidding me. Ask any successful Country music PD and they will tell you the same. When you cater to the less affluent you need large cume. This is nothing new or earth shattering. Classical music normally does not get good ratings but the listeners are usualy the richest and most politically influential people in any town.

This applies to TV as well. Example: CNBC gets lousy ratings. However, the typical viewer is a millionaire.

This is business. Going back to the bigotted example you gave, if only gun-toting thugs listened to a particular station, that station would be low rated and would serve less affluent (less desirable potential customers to advertisers). The playlist would have to be formatted to appeal to a much wider audience in order to serve their advertisers. No brain surgery involved.

Therefore the only portion of your argument that is left is the part that Country is a great format. Yes it is, but it seems pretty clear that programmers do not see it as a viable option for the big apple, which is unfortunate.

Out of that list of formats, I would say that a more current dance format, and AAA are the two biggest holes in NYC. KTU hardly plays any dance currents anymore and has basically morphed into nothing more than your average rhythmic AC. And as far as AAA goes; you have non-commercial WFUV 90.7, which is ok, but a true commercial AAA would be a neat addition to the dial in NYC.

What station in America has a Classic Hip Hop Format ? Satellite is the only place for Classic Hip Hop , and that a shame . New York ( Where Hip Hop was Born ) Should have a Classic Hip Hop station .
