I heard it through the Grapevine that Kiss fm is going to be changing to Mega 103.5,,, not sure the format......Anyway, the current Kiss PD is supposedly going to Q-102 in Philly, id really like to confirm this rumour..... That would leave Chi-town without a CHR-POP once again....

How many stations playing that crap do you need. There are only so many Teeny Boppers out there.

Excuse me.. Isn't that what they came from? In between Rock 103.5 (RIP) and Kiss?

Maybe "Mega" would be a take off of the new "Hog" format...that has really taken off in Milwaukee.

The Clear Channel "Mega" format is a mix of Reggaeton, Spanish Hip-Hop & pop hits.

I KNEW IT

I KNEW IT

and once again I KNEW IT

I had that feeling since KFMD flipped to it last year.

And then WKSC started playing Selina in the middays last year. That was another warning.

DAMN. Thank GOD I have XM. I swear if I didn't I'd be completely screwed.

It's been a GREAT and very fascinating 5 years. And I got over 80 tapes full to prove it.

So when does the flip happen? I'd sure like to catch the end on tape since I was outside in the car when Kiss 103.5 launched.

Denver lost their CHR to Mega. And they STILL haven't gotten another. So Chicago is screwed out of CHR once again.

KFMD's ratings were almost exact if not exact to WKSC's.

No... they were Jammin Oldies prior to Kiss... Mega is Hurban.

as for replacements:

Now as for a replacement (like that would ever happen.) here would be some good canidates:

WTMX (Yeah they bill well but they're sounding more like an Adult CHR everyday

Nine (The Top 9@9 is a good CHR heavy countdown)

WXLC (highly doubt it but they're roots are CHR)

WILV (Well, WKSC billed better according to Feder. I think Bonneville owns 1 CHR. But of course they'd have to protect WTMX. Didn't their new PD used to program WYTZ/WLS?)

WBBM (Yeah they'd throw 1 or 2 rock songs in MAYBE if someone is lucky. Doubt they'd ever go full blown CHR again)
______________

I wont believe it until I see it. They just renewed Drex's contract.

Doesn't matter. They just renewed Dick Biondi's contract not long before they blew up 104.3 WJMK and moved it to HD-2. Plus you can probably always move him to other positions and of course fire.

Spoken like a true 60s folgie. If everyone thought like that you would've never had a place to hear your beloved law breaking, thieving, drugged out "artists" like The Rolling Stones and Led Zepplin.

The argument that KIDS are worthless is just an old bag unhappy with what today's kids are into. I recall the same arguments in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. How small minded people are. The argument that Kiss is worthless isn't, it's a loser in Chicago, it's billing is anemic, it's ratings aren't all that stellar and it's PD is a lost cause. To do a Mega format on a big stick only changes the listeners for them not the billing. It's still not going to bill more than The Beat did. It may hurt La Kalle if they go out and beat the street.

If 100.3 dumps all air staff, brightens up imaging and presents a more bubbly, lively Top 40 presentation of 100.3, they're going to damage NUA, V103 (to a small degree), take some from The Mix and others, a little here, a little there takes them to a 3, takes them to 15 to 18 million and that's a helluva lot better than 10 - at least, last time I checked. We are talking radio and only in radio could they view that as bad.

Just something to chomp on.

You've got it on the head Jeremy, you'd think people would think before posting. While it is rumor, I'll know in a few hours if it's true. Once I find out, I can't guarantee I'll be able to confirm it, sorry.

Give it time... the "HOG" format will start to fade..... That and from what I hear, Harley is none too happy about the HOG moniker.

Jeremy,

She tests good for Hispanics. If you notice, the WLIT "hip" sound and even TMX playing Gwen Sefani is another way to attract Hispanic listeners which within 10 years will be the majority within the city limits.

Most format changes are not planned that far off, and some are knee jerk last minute to take advantage of a situation.
______________

www.mega1035.com is owned by Armando Rivera (Street Hits) and has been for a few years.

Didn't he have ties to 103.5 for a time?

Maybe that's where this is from.
______________

Re: 103.5 Kiss Fm-- Changing Formats... Interesting.

*IF* this is true, this would be a good way for CC to really compete with B (and really clean their clock out if done right) also sending 103.1 back to decide their next format move. Unless they can all be happy 6 months later with where the cards and numbers fall.
______________

In Houston, today, Mega is 85% reggaetón and 15% Hip Hop in English, with no Spanish pop. They seem to be flusing the Spanish pop, given the success of the Latino 96.3 format in LA, which has never played any Spanish pop at all.

Selena has not tested well for several years among Hispanics, except for her cumbia (Mexican tropical) songs
