103.5 WGRR Playing AC/DC

And I never thought Led Zepplin would be selling Caddies!

Or how about playing "If Pigs Had Wings" by Heywood Banks?

ha-ha!

GRR used to be a great station. Now it seems to appeal to the tiny boppers. I know, someone will get on here and blast me and talk about how good the rating are. Fine, anyone who can put up with Chris and Janeen in the morning is welcome to them. And the play list must be about 75 songs long.

I'm no fan of WGRR, but at least I can stand most of the songs they play, unlike Rewind. I know Rewind is doing well in the ratings, but it was playing at the dentist's office and 'Material Girl' by Madonna was on, and later they played 'Here Comes the Rain Again' by the Eurythmics. I've come to the conclusion that the worst music of the 70s cannot compare with how bad the worst music of the 80s was.

You forgot "Jessie's Girl" and "Come On Eileen". ;D

With all due respects, no "teeny bopper" these days listens to AC/DC. I know...I still do dances at middle schools.

Those who listen most to AC/DC are 30 and 40 somethings. You know...adults in the prime demographic for advertisers...which may also explain why WGRR has a song or two of theirs on their playlist.

I know...I know, you wish the "old WGRR" would come back. But those days are behind us now.

As much as I agree with you guys, this is the direction that WGRR has to go....slowly. And I can't rip Rewind after the quick success they've had. Its all my 43 year old wife listens too. They have re-invented the 80's format that didn't succeed before.

Rewind could prove to be WRRM's greatest nightmare. It's targeted to women. As for the slam against the 80s, I'll take Madonna, Jesse's Girl. Here Comes The Rain Again, and Come On Eileen over Billy Don't Be A Hero, The Night Chicago Died, Torn Between Two Lovers, and Run Joey Run any day of the week.

Another thought or two here:

Songs such as "The Night Chicago Died" and "Billy Don't Be A Hero" are fine as "sprinkled in" songs played with a purpose behind it. (You do know that Bo Donaldson was from Cincinnati, right?) However, I don't think they are full-fledged playlist songs. I'd like to see the research on those before I'd comment any further.

As far as Rewind goes...while I do think it sounds pretty good, it's still in the early stages of its run. Let's see how they do in a year or two and we'll see if they've found the right way to "niche" such a station, or...if they'll see an early surge, then a slow trail off like many other stations like it have done. The jury's still out on it yet. And it's too early to make assumptions about it.
