103.7 history before 1973 KOZN

Hey Guys:

Would ayybody know the format history of 103.7 before 1973 where it became Country KOZN?

I do know it had the KSDO CALLS FROM 1966 TO 1973.

I also see that it was called KTSD Owned by "The Good Music International Inc" These guys owned Classical stations in Seattle, Portland, L.A and Riverside.

Thanks

T.J.

It seems as though all FM stations played "beautiful music" before the mid 70's except KPRI 106.5 and KGB 101.5 :)

I am amazed that anyone can remember anything at all about those very forgettable early FM stations that operated out of a closet in a back room. I worked at KUDE Oceanside and KOWN Escondido in the very early 70's and they each had the automated tape systems churning out those lush Ray Coniff and Percy Faith arrangements of pop music (elevator music for people who didn't own elevators). When I think back on it, there must have been zero dial-hopping among the few FM listeners in those days: if you liked "beautiful music" you just picked the closest of the many such stations on the dial and stuck with that and if you liked rock you listened to the original KPRI up until perhaps 1971 or so.

Wow, good question. You should really look that up...

Re: 103.7 history before 1972 KOZN Country was KSDO FM

Hey Guys:

After doing some more research I found out that KTSD 103.7 never went on the air. It was a CP from 1962 to 1965 owned by International Good Music Inc (KGMJ Inc) However it was sold to the owners of KSDO 1130 (Gordon Broadcasting of San Diego in 1965) and put on the air Feb 1965 as KSDO-FM.

KSDO AM and FM were sold seprately in Feb of 1972

KSDO-AM to Generations 2 Of San Diego Inc

KSDO-FM to MetroAmerica calls changed to KOZN and format to Country.

The only thing I could not find out was the format of KSDO FM 103.7 from 1965 to 1972.
Anybody have any idea? The programming was separate from the AM from 1965 to 1972.

I am guessing Beautiful Music?

KSDO 1130 I know had a Beautiful Music format during this time.(65-70)

Just thought I would share what I found with you guys.

Thanks

T.J.
