103.7 - Is this a vacant frequency in Lafayette?

The station that was nearest to Lafayette that last used that frequency was KBIU out of Lake Charles; now located at 103.3 MHz.

Now the station nearest to Lafayette that broadcasts on 103.7 is about 150 miles away in La Porte, Texas.

Is it possible for a new radio station or any current station in the Lafayette market to occupy this frequency if wished to do so?

I know 103.7 in La Porte can be heard all the way to this side of Lake Charles near Jennings. I travel that area to Houston once every month and am amazed at their signal!

Shortly after KBIU moved to 103.3, a group called "Opelousas Radio Broadcasters" successfully petitioned the FCC to add a 103.7A allocation to Opelousas. Next step is to have it go to auction.

KOCZ, as an LPFM station, would be forced to move to accommodate a full-power 103.7.

Thanks C murder for the info on the allotment, I figured it would be hard to put a station there due to the 2 c stations on 103.7

But Doctor Technical and all is correct, there is a LP station on 103.7 and they would have to move to accommodate the Class A station, But my guess is the Opelousas Radio Broadcasters may actually be involved with the LP station, as I heard of some who have petitioned or wanted to petition the FCC to go legal Class A at say 1,000 watts to protect the stations from having to move and provide a better signal

I remember reading several years ago before the storm, about 105.7 and 96.3 both being vacant frequencies for class C2 (50Kw) rim shot stations south of New Orleans. Never have heard much more though.

On the subject of vacant frequencies, are there any full power vacant frequencies on FM for N.O.?

You can reasonably assume there are no full-power vacant frequencies in any U.S. city of more than 100,000 population, New Orleans included.
