103.7-San Antonio Now Adult Standards?

I heard an announcement this morning on KMFR 103.7/105.9 that KMFR was going to be off the air for a few months. The gist of the announcement was that the 105.9 tower either needed maintenance (or new tower construction). Apparently the maintenance/construction has been pushed back due to tower issues in areas ravaged by Hurricane Ike. As a result, 103.7 will be simulcasting KAHL 1310 until KMFR (105.9) returns to the air.

What does antenna maintenance have to do with format substitution? Why can't they just blow off 105.9 and keep the rock format on their translator here in town? Afterall, its not a real radio station, just a laptop with lots of disc space.

I enjoyed the adult standards format on 103.7. It's ironic that music from the 50s to early 80s sounds so fresh. With the horrid KTFM, similar sounding country stations with way too many 90s recurrents, a wanabe sounding Q101.9 - Magic, and a KISS copycat - 97Rock, I found the drive into SA last week quite nice. Now 103.7's up there in my book with Jack, KISS and KONO. Though I'm not a big top 40 person, Mix is sounding good, and I still prefer Power 106.7 over the Beat.

Now back to Houston to wish for an active rocker. It's real hard to get KISS sometimes here, but it happens.

IIRC 103.7 needs to repeat a station. Under FCC rules it cannot originate its own programming.

Fred Cantu is right: the 103.7 translator must relay some other station -- it cannot originate programming on its own. If 105.9 is off the air, 103.7 must either switch to relaying a different station or go off the air as well.

...."He likes the format....."???? What about the listeners??? I guess its just another example of the application of current administration's 'We Know What's Better For you'. But who really cares? It was just another lame version of KZEP's repetitive tired library of overplayed "rock". The signal is so weak that 103.7 can only be heard near downtown. I loose it on I-10W after Wurzbach and 1310AM has even less range and vanishes after sunset. So be it, Barger, its your toy, so you can do what want with it. It probably reaches some nursing homes somewhere near the translator and it made another preset available on my high-powered, top quality. outsourced manufactured, non-biodegradable, carbon greenhouse gas belching GM Delco/Delphi/Whatever ANALOG musicbox.
