....KOUL Corpus, that is!

I am at work (west side of Houston) and am picking up KOUL clear as a bell on a tiny little clock radio (actually it has a little wire antenna). No sign of KIOL...I may try and take the antenna off and see if that makes a difference.

yea it does sound good on the west side.you know that a shame we are closer to
kiol then koul, that goes to show you what weather can do to radio, its sad that there is a hole left on the west side for people who like the kiol format.

It is pretty impressive what weather can do. I find it interesting, even though it imposes on some of my listening.

Not weather related, but we (on the west side) miss out on KACC (89.7) also!

Strong tropo this morning

Caught on my car radio this morning while driving to work:

90.5 KJIC mixed with KUT
99.7 K259AB mixed with KVST
93.3 KQBU mixed with KITE
98.5 KTJM mixed with ????

These 3 clear as a bell:
94.1
98.7
99.9

and more in the 100.x and upwards, but I had arrived at my workplace, so I couldn't DX anymore :p

Hopefully we'll get some more tropo tomorrow morning.

tropo question

Is the time around sunrise even better for tropo than say 1 or 2 AM? When i get stations from SA or Austin clearly its normally after midnight, but im never up at 6 or 7 to try then.Im sure i wont get any sympathy from those of you that are up then, but just curious, haha.

Re: 103.7 sounding great today! Did they change their audio settings?

Doesn't sound like if they're broadcasting in AM stereo anymore. Thats what it sounded like to me.. I know they weren't.

I was being a little sarcastic in my original post b/c KOUL Corpus Christi was overpowering them on my little radio yesterday morning...but I think you're right. Later in the day, I had KIOL on in the car and it is sounding much better than it did last week! Hopefully that's a good sign. I guess they were just experimenting with something last week...?

Just from my experience, I have gotten good conditions early in the morning (like 5:30 - 7:30). Around 8 it usually tends to die down...I don't really know how that compares to 1-2 AM. I usually get pretty good DX pickup after 10 at night though. I think it is a little better in the morning, but that is just based on listening experience...not a technical reason...

Last night driving around at 1:30 am, I picked up KISS (San Antonio) KROX (Austin) and Bob FM (Austin). My radio isn't anything special--the factory standard for a Toyota Rav4.
I was headed toward North Houston from the Richmond strip.

My experience with tropo has been inconsistent and there have been times at 1 in the morning where even the local stations were a bit fuzzy.
To each his own, I guess.
