103.7

If 103.7 could move there antenna 20 to 25 miles closer to Houston how much would that help the signal & ratings

They can't, so whats the point speculating an impossible scenario?

The man was saying "IF THEY COULD". That does sound like a good question that someone could answer. I just thought about that the other day as well.

Isn't there also a stick in the downtown area as well??

Stan, you should. After all, Beaumont is who the signal should be intended for. Distortion is correct, it can't happen, it won't happen, so why discuss an impossible scenario?

I just wish they'd figure out their imaging. "FM 103.7 FM KHJK Jack FM" is ridiculous and confusing.

There must be some contractual obligation to keep the 'Jack' name, although the imaging is certainly different than when it first came on. I must say I find Cumulus to be rather clueless and without direction in how they run their stations. They have some good people still at 103.7, they just need to turn them loose to run the station rather than some pinhead in Atlanta doing so. They couldn't do any worse than what has been done the past few years.

In listening to the musical content over the past few days, I was wondering if David Sadof was working there...

You said a mouthful, stan. It was Steve Robison and Pat Fant that built the iconic Buzz back in the 90's and given the opportunity could bring some first time glory to the 103.7 freq. The monkey wrench there is no more Pat Fant in the Cumulus building. In his place is a man with years of experience in the Spanish language format. It isn't hard to see the writing on this wall. I wonder if the same fate awaits 97.5 after the ESPN contract runs out? They certainly are blowing anyone's doors off with the current incarnation of KFNC, either.

Unfortunately for Cumulus, that stick is as far as it will go toward Houston. In order to move it closer, there would have to be some arrangement with the competing Corpus frequency. You know, the one we hear in Houston on those bad inversion days.

They're not under any contractual obligation to continue using the name "Jack". As long as they're paying the licensing fee for the contract term, it doesn't matter. Looking at their website and listening to a continued, random use of the name "Jack", one wonders exactly who is making the decisions there. Everyone knows that programming strategy for Cumulus is dictated top down from Atlanta. Argue about their real versus self perceived strengths and this still doesn't make sense. Perhaps the sales manager (who considers himself a programmer) is pulling the strings to keep some mention of Jack because he sold it that way.

Whomever is making this foolish decision is killing any opportunity the new format has by confusing the listener. The newest incarnation of 103.7, no matter how well conceptualized and targeted, should not use the name "Jack" at all. And alternative formats as well as triple A both engage their listeners by utilizing high website interactive involvement. On the web, it's all STILL Jack, even the new items being posted. Duh!

Robison and Fant teamed for an exceptional station in creating The Buzz years ago. Fant is gone. Robison is probably the sane, strategic voice screaming to do this new thing right. Too bad for him, he's working for Cumulus. We'll never know how well his creation could do.

As for KFNC, 97.5's future. Cumulus would have already changed that to another format if they had an idea of what to do with it. Right now, ESPN is an exclusive, even though there are 3 other sports stations.

Or maybe they can't afford to redo the website? While their stock is trading above $0.33 now, it's still under 2 bucks.

I never understood the hero worship in this town for Pat Fant. Then again, I only watched him work under Cumeless, so it's not like he was working for a real broadcaster. The only station that he led for them that wasn't a complete failure from the get-go was KRBE, and they could skate on the momentum that Susquehanna started before the wheels started coming off. Was it Fant, Cumeless, or a combination of the two?
