103.9 WRKA Country Legends

When they switch this Friday at 5pm What's the first song?

Hey Good Lookin' by Hank Williams

Mountain Music by Alabama

Lookin For Love by Johnny Lee

Ring Of Fire By Johnny Cash

Drivin' My Life Away by Eddie Rabbitt

Amarillo By Morning by George Strait...

WAMZ has never had 2 Country stations to deal with across the Street.
What a nice welcome for their new ownership next Wednesday.

I'd listen to that! This town needs a classic country format.

But what is easier to sell, Oldies or Classic Country?

Once again, you have to sell the story. Cox knows how to make money in Louisville, so it will be interesting either way

Once again how many times has this been tried in Louisville, and all 3 stations couldn't even get a 2-share... ughhh

Nuttin against country i just hope it is news/talk with a liberal talk show. But projammer sounds pretty adamant about it being classic country so we shall see.

Look at how it was tried. The last time, Radio One did it on the 104 signal. However they didn't feed the format. Didn't put live jocks on it, didn't give people an actual reason to listen. They put the format out there and let it die. Done right, and this thing will work.

And, to correct the record, WAMZ has had two country formats to deal with. Shortly after the Radio One flip, Cox flipped 103 to country. You could hear AMZ's playlist change over night. I'm hoping Cox will do it right, I'll listen to an oldies country format, I already do on XM.

So you don't think they will run the classic country format jockless like they did with new country on 103.9?

Just gotta say i am so thankful cox killed that god awful 80s station they had several years ago. Even lrs in its present incarnation is way better then that 80s station was. I swear they played only the top tier 80s hits i think there library consisted of 100 songs and not one more. I wish them well with whatever they do with the frequency.

Not really sure what that means but, one hand washes the other. If COX runs both a new and classic country format they will have both the young and old country audience and have that corner of the market locked up. Plus it would sold a package.

Amen! XM is the way to go if you're a music fan.

I'm sure they'd at least VT it. Now, get back to work!

Adding the two's ratings together against a presumably fragmented WAMZ could be a good strategy. Assuming the Country Legends does pan out & 103.1 actually goes live (hopefully with Nigh Train & Gator), I CAN NOT WAIT to see this one play out. Long, long overdue.

Cox made a great move! This is exactly what Louisville needed, an all out good Country battle.

Cox has the money. Bain wont give AMZ as much as they want.
Cox has the resources. Bain wont give AMZ as many as they want.
Cox has the niche. Bain will try to keep AMZ afloat with 1 or 2 billboards.

Oldies can now be found on WAKY. But dont think that Max is looking on how to impact this as well. Louie may slide a little more 70's and 80's friendly due to the recent change, this would allow Max to focus on 80's and 90's.

One year from now: Will 103.1 & 103.9 combined be even or above AMZ?

Oldies has always been on WAKY and WASE before that, nothing new...

Louie is already 70s and 80s heavy, that has nothing to do with WRKA... the MAX as well is heavy 90's with 2 or 3 80's songs an hour, again nothing to do with WRKA

Not if they want to grow the listener base. Hell, I already have a jockless classic country format on XM and in my MP3 player. For any station, give me a reason to listen and I will. If they can't give me what I'm already getting, why change?
