103.9 WTDA Talk FM

The WTDA site now says:

103.9 WTDA TALK FM

ALSO FEATURING:

Bob and Tom, 5AM - 10AM
Glenn Beck, 10AM - 1PM
Fox Sports Radio, 1PM - 4PM
Mark the Shark Sports, 4PM - 6PM
Fox Sports Radio, 6PM - 5AM

With more feature programming to be announced!!

Nope, it's official. The NEW site at tedfm.com is in place. Still too early to tell, but from what I see so far this looks like a VERY wise decision for everyone involved. Glenn Beck gets a NEW home in Columbus on a MUCH better signal, and 103.9 who is close to being rated DEAD last (pulling a mere 1.2 this past book) will do something no other FM station does.

Of course it's too early to tell how well they will do, but can they really do any worse? I like the change and can't wait to check them out tomorrow morning.

MUCH better signal?!?!? THen WTVN? Then 1230? Because NEITHER of those would be true. He actually would've had a stronger signal on 1230, which is funny, since that was his gripe for not going to 1230.

MUCH better signal??? Maybe if you live in Westerville. Just try getting good reception for WTDA downtown while Beck is on, and compare that "MUCH better signal" to 1230's. What do you think is culprit #1 for the fact that WTDA's ratings have been so low? Obviously, that awful signal. Even if Adult Hits WAS the wrong format for them, format can't rank any higher than second in a list of reasons for their low ratings.

In fact, before the Ted site went down I looked at the comments in their "what do you think of the new Ted-FM so far" poll, and it already had a Beck fan seeking advice on how he could manage to receive the station in his office, instead of just his car. Can't say I was surprised. For that matter, it's hard to get clear reception on WTDA right next to its studios on 33!

So we'll have 3 stations with political talk (610, 1230, 103.9). And 3 1/2 stations with sports talk (1460, 1230, 103.9, 610)? (I'm counting 610 as 1/2, with their Buckeye Coverage.) I was told besides Jim Rome, 1230 would also be carrying Fox Sports. Not sure if I believe that now. The true question is this... does any of them come close to taking ratings from 610?!? My guess is... no. The other 3 just have too weak of signals and lack of local talk, although 1460 has local talk, I can't call that "quality" talk... those guys hurt my ears. Interesting though to see Mark the Shark in the PM Drive hours going against Corby and Fox Sports going against Rome on 1230 and Ricodarti and "sometimes Speilman" on 1460. That's way too much sports talk for a town that doesn't even have a pro team... and don't even try to count the CBJ as a pro team... hockey doesnt count... HA!

Three of us thought the same thing at the same time!

How about that! WTDA will be lucky if it can get that many *listeners* at the same time. OK, OK, I'm exaggerating...I'm sure they'll be able to make it to 10 or 11 simultaneous listeners (if you count pets, anyway).

Hey, maybe the bright side of this is that Columbus can finally get an image!  We can become the "Blabbermouth City."  This is exciting! I'm going to write the Chamber of Commerce right away...

I knew this was happening last week when Glenn Beck said in regards to not being in Columbus, or so they thought...
"We have a major announcement next Monday.
Hmmmmmmmm! Wonder what that could be?

I'm also curious about Fox Sports Radio. I thought Jim Rome was the noon/3 host on FSR?

Bad imaging. Mediocre lineup (only because of having only one sports talker heretofore).

If they're going to continue to pre-feed B&T from 5-6a, they might as well run Beck live starting at 9. Isn't he the building block of the flip?

As to Columbus being the "Blabbermouth City", not even close. Welcome to the hell that is seven talk stations many of us have lived in for years. Up until a week ago, Columbus was one of four or five top-100 markets that was severely UNDERTALKED. Now they're about right (seeing that all the good shows are cleared and few of the C- and D-listers are).

And, no, Rome isn't the noon-3 host on FSR? That would be a Czaban replay, intentionally placed because most FSR affils clear Rome. Not the same thing. Although one would think that Rome would go with the FSR affiliation if 'TDA wanted him, but, alas, such is the world of independent operators against corporate stations that owned syndicators. I thought 1230 was going to be a hybrid of news/talk and CC's new rather interesting 1360thesource.com/Cincy. Rome would fit better on 103.9 with perhaps Dr. Laura on 1230. (No, she's not a non-entity)

He said it would be "next week" and IIRC, it does not involve a new clearance. How is getting dumped in a market and getting back on a lesser station "big news"?

Since 16 hours of the 24-hours is sports and only 8 hours is talk, WTDA should probably be considered a sports station now, shouldn't it?

like I said, we'll see. i don't think they will see a HUGE boost in the ratings because of the change in format because you can only do so much with a poor signal (dropping out in places all over Columbus), HOWEVER...like I pointed out earlier, this is the ONLY talk station on the FM dial and at least Beck has a home on the radio here in Columbus.

It would sure be nice if the LOCAL owners would make the decision to use more LOCAL talent. The Minnicks have always outclassed CC...don't want to see them mimmick the beast.
