What credibility does CBS Radio News have anymore? That network is on so few big radio stations anymore it's almost laughable. (BTW: I don't ridicule the TV network here...it's the radio service that's been the issue).

One would think there might be other options...CNN? Fox Light? (I understand Fox will allow one full network affiliate and a "light" affiliate in the same market.) Though, most likely CC has those options tied up. Certainly perhaps an ABC affiliation might be available.

Weather? How 'bout The Weather Channel? Or any other handful of weather services out there.

Got to wonder if the Fox deal went sour how many big sticks CBS would appear on if Clear Channel repped them like Fox?

After all, they won't EVER be able to replace BC when he retires because BC is like Walter Cronkite to the Columbus radio audience and will never be able to be replaced. Just a thought.

I think they made a huge mistake when they got rid of Chuck Gillespie. I don't know why those people are so in love with Joel Riley over there. Bad voice, nothing interesting to talk about, can't stand him on the radio. He may be a great guy, or he may have something on someone over there. I have no comment on him as a music DJ as I haven't heard him, but I don't know why he survives on WTVN. Chuck does a good show Sunday nights, but I think they need to do something to zip it up a bit ... the show sounded a little sleepy for my tastes the other evening.

Yes, I was also surprised when they got rid of Chuck Gillespie BUT I expected for them to keep Joel Riley on staff because they DO love him.
For several months on this board, I predicted that Joel Riley would stay on staff when the rumors were flying that Glenn Beck would take over
Joel's 9:00 AM to Noon talk show on WTVN. Joel even managed to survive a couple of layoffs after Glenn Beck took over his old time slot.

Well I heard Joel Riley on 93.3 on the ride home this afternoon and I must say I hate him just as much as a DJ. He must have something on someone over there. I just don't get it.

Riley's fine.  It's 93.3's format choice that's so dumb.  Even if they have to stick with Premium Choice, they could do Classic Hits, 70's/80's, or Hot AC instead of wasting a rare Columbus big signal to provide Mainstream AC when that format already covered by another big signal (94.7).  But keep Riley and all the other local talent on board.

I may just be prejudiced because I didn't like him as a talk show host. (See there all you libs, it's not just about politics with me!) I'm sure he's a great guy and all, but he doesn't have the voice or charisma to put him in a prime slot, in my opinion. He's not A-list material to me. I always thought Gillespie was a dork on Channel 6, but for some reason I really liked him on the radio. He sounded very, very, very, very professional. I can't imagine why they would can someone who sounded that good in favor of someone who should either be a producer, or still be in Mt. Vernon. Obviously I don't know if Gillespie worked and played well with others, but he sounded to me like he could be in the big leagues. Again, I'm sure Riley's a great guy and all, but in my humble opinion, he just doesn't have "it".

Edit: P.S. This is from someone who someone who thinks he has a pretty good ear for talent!

WDTA airs thoes "bottom of the barrel righty talkers". With the exception of Micheal Savage who three hours of hate isn't doing anything for the station. WDTA is no longer advertising in The Other Paper? While Dial Global doing just fine with thier talkers. Then I don't listen to talkers that have a history of drug abuse. For example Rush and Glenn.

Any thoughts on how WTDA's new local morning show will do on the ratings? If I recall correctly, WTDA was doing a similar local morning show
about four or five ago before it moved to a all talk format. WTDA was plying music back then and their slogan was, WE PLAY EVERYTHING,
if I recall correctly. They had Mark the Shark and Kelly Quinn also doing mornings back then.

It seems to me Mark the Shark is struggling in his new role of general talk show host and seems more comfortable with his sports talk hat on.

Ringo can attest: It don't come easy. Mark's been around a long time. He'll adapt.

Mark and Kelly did mornings together when 103.9 was the Eagle. I like the morning Talk actually. It's local DJs talking about stuff that we our selves would talk about. I give this one a thumbs up! Although once their show is over I take my ears elsewhere.

Wow, I can't listen to this new morning show. It's great if you want to take a nap. I really liked Shark's show when it was on from 4 to 6. But it just seems so boring and bland now. Chuck, you say Shark has been around a long time and he will adapt, but it sounds like a show you would have heard a LONG time ago. Way out of touch with today's world. Shark reads stories and Kelly says "oh wow" or "how sad" or "I heard about that". When Logan is in, it is the same old trips down memory lane. It doesn't seem like much thought goes into the show. Grab a few stories to read and let Logan ramble about his golf game and Buckeye memories when he comes in. Today's big guest was a high school football coach. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I know it is new, so I will tune back in after a few weeks to see if it is any better.

It sounds like mostly small talk to me. Boring and painful to listen to.
How long will this new morning show last? It sound to me like there is very little show prep in the production of the show.
Maybe more show prep will help?
Bob Conner over at WTVN has nothing to worry about. He still will rule the morning airways in Cbus.

Really? Which coach?

I think his name was Benn Gleck. Wouldn't stop talking about how racist officiating was hurting his team's record. Desperate attempt by TDA to recapture some of its (few) past listeners?

Believe it or not, I enjoyed that interview with the Worthington coach. And I don't live in Worthington or have a connection to the school or for that matter am a sports junkie.

Would I enjoy that type of interview for every segment. Hell no. But that segment was interesting. Great local connection. Great way to talk about great kids and athletes.

Joel Reiley is better than that ex drug junkie that they have on now on WTVN. Even Corby called Beck a moron. Plus the new morning show on WTDA needs work but it is better than the american hating guests that is on that on that other talk station.

Although they may need some work, I think WTDA's morning show is a much welcome and positive show when compared to the ranting, hate and fear mongering that occurs on other talk shows. Plus I like the fact that it is local. However, I think Mark tends to lay heavy on the sports, but then again, that could have just been the time frame I was listening during my drive into work.

Sports talk is Mark's strong point. I don't think he is cut out for general talk radio. Just a opinion.

Have been listening to the WTDA morning show for the last couple of months. When they came on the air at
6:00 AM this morning, Mark the Shark said he had no sleep last night because he was so excited with the Browns winning a Football game. Also, he sounded like he had been up for several days and nights with a bad hangover. Couldn't stand to listen anymore so went over to WTVN radio. BC has said many times on his show that he needs to get enough sleep and have adequate show prep before he dose his show. That is his recipe for a successful morning show and it seems to be working for him.

Also, can't stand it when Kelly and Mark try to play Shock Jock.
It's just sounds so lame to me but maybe they do it to because they want to be a alternative to BC's morning show over a WTVN. That doesn't seem to be working for them but at least it will give them a boost in the ratings race.

Maybe not. Beside, even if it did, a 100% boost over near-nothing is still near-nothing.

Well, I have tried to listen some more and it doesn't sound like it has progressed since day 1. I don't get why they ignore the NFL for the most part yet spend forever talking Blue Jackets. I know the Jackets are local, but hockey talk is about as interesting as staring at bricks. They don't draw 20,000 people to games and they don't get a lot of viewers for the games on TV. Just seems silly to spend so much time on it.

Anyway, I hear they are changing the format to music Monday. I don't know if the morning show will still be around or not. Some sort of classic rock is the word. Great, just what we need. Why is it no one ever goes after the top stations? It is no wonder Power and WNCI sit at the top, they have no competition.
