1030 AM

Tonight, around 7:30 p.m., KCTA in Corpus Christi, Texas, was booming into the northeast Austin, Texas, area.
Normally, it's fairly weak at night, similar to its daytime pattern here. As it's a daytimer, it must be on critical hours or something.

Received KTWO from Wyoming the other night, Normally don't get that, but have at least once before, according to my log.

Am surprised KTWO doesn't come in more here, as I'm in its guesstimated region.

KBUF Holcomb, KS (Garden City) has come in but it's very weak and difficult to hear. I believe I caught it last night. Heard a Kansas Univ. basketball game. Assume the KS station would be more likely to carry a KU basketball game over the WY (former) blowtorch.

I've never gotten KFAY, though the map suggests I should receive its nighttime signal on occasion.

WBZ Boston has appeared on occasion, but every time I try for it, no dice.

XEQR from Mexico City has also arrived at night on these dates: 12/23/2024, 12/25/24, 12/29, 01/02/25.

Created this new thread because the 1030 FOTW is closed to new replies, as most threads are in this forum (and board).

What's your experience with 1030 been lately?

Nothing in the daytime unless WBZ skips in during the winter. Before sunset I've gotten WNVR Vernin Hills, IL until it goes away and is overtaken by WBZ

Very little if anything for me daytime in central Ohio. WBZ is always one of the best skywave signals barring an auroral event, and it usually gets in here pretty early in my experience.

Down here in Houston, KCTA is very strong during the day. They often seem to stay on after sunset. The strongest signal on 1030 at night is XEQR. I've heard WBZ fairly often in the winter, and depending on conditions, KTWO can also be heard. I've heard both KBUF and KFAY, but not since 2021.

I've mentioned this before, but we vacationed in Guanacaste, on the west side of Costa Rica, in 2018 and WBZ was the strongest US signal at night from my hotel balcony.

That voluntary directional signal of WBZ really packs a punch. It's the first skywave signal to arrive in Chicago almost every day, summer or winter (and before 4 p.m. in December). The ERP must be 80 KW or so.

Mostly schlop.

Ive heard KTWO several times and KDUN when it gets stuck on day power.

I think I've heard XESDD Tee-huh-wanna a few times.

When i was in WY, 110-120 miles south of K2.. i heard WBZ several times
