104.1 is Country.

I can't hear the new 104.1 all the way from my post here in Lafayette, LA, but I just checked yes.com, and it appears that 104.1 has indeed gone the country route, despite the OM specifically saying that it was "NOT going to be Country" (Radio & Records) and that it was going to be a "good old mainstream rock & roll station." (Radio & Records, also)

The first song, according to YES: Alan Jackson "Gone Country", followed by Travis Tritt "Country Club", Alabama "Born Country", Charlie Daniels Band "Long Haired Country Boy", and George Strait "Seashores of Old Mexico."

So, let me get this straight - Cumulus leases 106.5 from Baldwin Broadcasting, wants to flip format to Rock. Baldwin doesn't want Rock on 106.5 to interfere with 92Zoo, so they give it back. As soon as LMA on 106.5 is ended and all ties to Baldwin are cut, dump Hot 104 and start stunting, telling everyone it will be a Rock station. When the time comes and stunting ends, launch 27th Country station in Mobile (slight exaggeration).

Ow, my logic hurts.

Stelly

Edit - at second look, it appears to be mostly Classic Country with a few currents every now and then.

Why break off ties with Baldwin Broadcasting?

Here's a cool idea. Cumulus should enter into a new LMA with Baldwin Broadcasting, but this time for 92-Zew. They should move the Zew to 100.7 making it a full market 100kw AAA rock station (Zew 100?) and a Mobile/Pensacola/Fort Walton Beach home for Walton & Johnson. They would have little competition from Active/hard rocker TK-101, which just happens to be the next station up the dial.
Then they could move Q-100's HotAC/Top-40 format over to 92.1 (92-Q?) with a tight focus on metro Mobile and continue the war with WABB. To fill in the Top-40 gap in Pensacola, Cumulus could beef up promotions of Z-96 in the Pensacola area to keep Q-100's listeners under the Cumulus umbrella while also continuing the war with WABB.

'Cool' isn't exactly how I'd describe this idea. Well, at least the part of moving WJLQ to 92.1 with CHR. Cumulus just conceded 'the war' with WABB, only to go at it again with a C3 signal?

Moving 'ZEW to 100.7 would be an interesting experiment, however.

Zew isn't for sale as of last week . Dotcom plus bought them !

Re: Why break off ties with Baldwin Broadcasting?

So you're saying that Zew is no longer related to 106.5? Then what was keeping Cumulus from launching a rock station on 106.5?

Or could Cumulus have broken their LMA with Baldwin in order to enter into a new LMA with Dotcom plus?

Has WABB won the top-40 war?

WABB may have won a battle, but they haven't won the war. Cumulus's Q-100 is still competing with WABB for listeners in Mobile and Q-100 and Z-96 both compete against WABB in Pensacola. Cumulus is still WABB's ONLY competition. As long as Q-100 is on the air, I don't think Cumulus has ceded much. Hot 104 was probably taking more listeners away from WBLX than WABB.

Poledo, scroll down to earlier posts about Baldwin/ Cumulus. Rest assured, that relationship is over.

WABB has won the chr war. It's over. Q-100 is in competion to a point, but not to where they're going to do any damage to ABB. Q's target is 30 and uppers, while ABB is alot younger in target. the day you hear ANY hip hop on Q, you might be able to say the war is on, but don't hold yer breath. P-cola is an after thought for ABB. Mobile is the primary focus. Maybe down the road CC might flip something (if they ever need to). That's your only shot right now for a good all out chr war.

Not trying to be an ass when I say this, but you live up to your name. Harv hasn't been the consultant for ABB for over two years now.

Re: Has WABB won the top-40 war?

And next you are going to tell me that Wayne Coy isn't the P.D. anymore.
