104.1 MHz -- Is this a vacant frequency in Lake Charles?

The nearest stations that operate on this frequency are over 120 Miles from Lake Charles. They are two class C stations. One in Houston, 104.1 KRBE, and another, 104.1 The Brew KOBW out of New Orleans. A class C station is obviously a powerful station, but neither of them reach Lake Charles.

KRBE's signal stretches all the way just barely passing Beaumont; and KOBW 104.1's signal stretches all the way just before Crowley.

This means, that possibly, a class C3 or class A station in Lake Charles, (such as KTSR, for example.) could possibly fit -in between- without much or any interference. A new station signal could possibly be created at 104.1 without intersecting towards Beaumont and Crowley and without interfering with KRBE or KOBW's signals.

(Remember folks, there's already a station at 97.9 in Lake Charles that uses the same frequency as a Houston station, 97.9 The Boxx. And 104.1 KRBE and 97.9 The Boxx share the same signal.)

KRBE Signal:

KOBW Signal:

KTSR Signal (a class C3 station):

(KTSR, a C3 station, does not reach Crowley but barely reaches Beaumont; a radio station in Lake Charles could be a bit downgraded to reach neither location.)

So, does anyone know if 104.1 is considered vacant in Lake Charles by the FCC?

Not anymore, as fieldtech1 says...

While taking a look at this, I learned something strange...

There seem to be two Oak Groves in Louisiana, and each one is the principal community of an FM station. The other Oak Grove is in northeast Louisiana near Monroe, and is home to KWCL-FM 96.7.

Wow! Another Delta Media station! They are setting the world on fire with building a station portfolio... I just don't know how they're making any money. All of the stations are niche formats and 103.7 KLWB is the only one with a city grade signal over any large population area. Once KOGM moves to the KLWB stick, it'll have good coverage over Lafayette and most of Acadiana so that'll be a second station. A KSLO 105.3 Simmesport simulcast with 107.1 (after the move) would give excellent Lafayette to Alexandria coverage.

Then there's ThisTV on 50.1. I'm surprised ThisTV bills enough in Lafayette to pay the electric bill on a 1000kw signal.

The electric bill actually shouldn't be too bad. With the right setup, should run you only $5-6K per month.
