104.1 The Heat

Tijuana based; expected to have hip-hop music.

Murrieta has an allotment that was negotiated with Mexico in 2001,a Class A sta. I would expect TJ to be class A
and maybe directional to protect Mexicali.

Do we know of any FM station in Mexico that is directional with the sole purpose of protecting a co- or adjacent channel station?

Very nice. Do we know what kind of a sigal to expect and when they will launch? I always wondered why the 104.1 frequency wasn't utilized. I don't think there's any city south of the Santa Barbara area that uses that dial position. So I'm sure this new station will have a very far radius and high power.

I think that powerhouse 104.3 KBIG Los Angeles is the reason there are no stations using 104.1 south of Santa Barbara.

I don't think the new 104.1 Tijuana can be very high power or have a far radius due to 104.1 XHBA Mexicali, 100 miles to the east and the class A 104.1 for Murrietta.

Could this be an Ensenada station?

After a brief internet research, it appears that The Heat 104.1 is set to debut Wednesday, August 24th and will be all hip-hop. Based on the twitter posts and the source's choice of music, the format appears to be some variation of rhythmic/urban contemporary hip-hop. No info found on the technical radio front.

Yeah that Twitter account looked kinda suspicious. Hopefully Chris will do some investigating and get us some official word of the new station. ;)

I smell Jaime Bonilla the crookedest crook in Mexico!! He makes the drug dealers look honest!!

But I am sure that he will lease it to BCA so that they can put I don't know sports on FM?? To once again simulcast Double X?

Why are there no official records of this new station?

KOGO600's reply would answer that.

It's sort of like asking a drug cartel for a waybill number to track a shipment.

Right answer Gleason. Supports my position that Mexican border broadcasters do whatever they want to do without consequence of enforcement.

This has nothing to do with Mexico or the border. It has to do with the separate category called unscrupulous licensees.

Don Burden had no stations on either side of the border, but he got a half-dozen major market (Portland, Denver, Indianapolis, Omaha) licenses pulled for bribing congresspeople.

Richard Eaton did have, illegally, a couple of stations in Mexico (XERF and XESC), but otherwise did nice things like giving illegal numbers game info on WOOK and double billing and fraud at WFAB, and lost both licenses for it. Those of us who worked there knew of even more.

Crooks exist in all societies.

Bernie Madoff made me cautious, but he did not make me curse all investments or sell my funds and shares.
