104.3 in Scranton

Yesterday I hit the scan button in my car and came upon Gem 107-7 on 104.3. Nice to have another choice of stations here in Scranton! Driving around it sounds good in most of the city however, it did fade for a few moments in parts of N. Scranton. Does anyone know when this frequency signed on?

Where's the transmitter?

I had it on during a trip down 81, from Dickson City to WB. It faded out around Moosic/Avoca. It was great in the rest of Lackawanna County.

104.3 FM....That's GOTTA Pi$$ off the Duke! ;D Gem really is just that "a gem". Ben Smith runs radio the way radio should be run. Not by following the "corporate model". Doing what everyone else says "won't work" like music on AM, oldies...Good Luck with it!

I Did Such A Good Job Breaking Ben Smith In At FM-107 Years Ago ...

I Feel That Was His Catapult To Greatness ::)

Dave, I don't think this is the same guy. THat Ben Smith was from Old Forge. This Ben Smith does Sat afternoons on his own station and sounds nothing like the guy you were talking about. But I agree, your Ben Smith was an awesome jock with an incredible amount of music knowledge. He started out doing jazz shows on WRKC FM and was well versed and just plain wonderful.

Hi Yonk & Dave:

Didn't the Ben Smith from Old Forge also own part of some station in PA?

The WEZX/WTLQ alum Ben Smith is a programmer on XM. I believe he is the PD and an Air Talent on " Fine Tuning". He is featured on other XM formats but when I last was in touch with him " Fine Tuning" was his baby. The Pa station he was involved with as an owner was WKGB, Susquehanna. He and his illustrious partners sold many years ago and today it is part of The Evil Empire( CC) in Binghamton.

Thanks Yonk for the info. Looks like eating all that Old Forger pizza pays off as a way to save some money for the future to invest in.

No, I knew the guy in college (if we're talking Ben Smith of Old Forge here) and I know he was way too smart to step on that land mine.
