I also dropped a line in the comments section. Here's what I wrote...

Bring back the oldies! Hey there are lots of people under 50 who weren't baby boomers like me who listened to the old format. In fact, it's the young people who are more accepting of old music than the older people and new music. I don't work in radio, but I'm not that stupid either.

Yeah I know, I'm a pee-on, they're not gonna listen to me. If they really wanted jack, they should have changed CKG. But oh yeah, dahl would be out of a job. God the radio biz is so not easy.

I think this market is "urbanized" enough as it is. Regardless of what anyone really thinks about the format, they target 25-54 mainly white audiences. As a mid-age member of that demo, I think I speak for most, and we have no interest in mixes, house and that jazzed-up stuff. Leave that to the teeny boppers at B96.

While this market it current intensive urbanized to the hilt. From there, it's wide open.

Teen-agers aren't into house of the 80s. In fact, there's very little of that music they're aware of. It hasn't been marketed in their culture's music, tv shows or anything else. Most of that jazzed up stuff is appreciated by many of V103 and Power's listeners. I know, I know, they're combined 18-34 numbers are only about #1 in the market. I guess they could do better?

I'd venture to guess you speak for yourself and a few people like you. You don't speak for our entire demographic as I'm above you in that demo.

As for Mixes? Nothing wrong with retro mixes. It'd be an interesting concept that would lure many UNLIKE you to the station on the weekends.

I don't think they necessarily target 25-54 mainly white audience. I do hear early 90s pop/rap already on the station.

Plus I was talking also New Wave and classic 80s music. Not necessarily what you classify as "urban" music. I just mentioned that it should be personalized for the Chicago audience.

Additionally, listen to B 96. They ditched dance years ago.

Fine, that was how it was released, not extended mixes and non-radio versions. White people DO like early 90s pop/rap too.

You know what I mean. I don't CARE what B96 does - not my music.

Listen, here's the bottom line, I don't care what you listen to, that's fine. But don't expect that the mainstream that Jack is looking to attract, will want to hear hot mixes and extended dance trax.

I grew up with 70's 80's 90's music on the radio. That is what I want to hear. I think I speak for THEIR target. If I want dance remixes I will find a station that plays em or go to a dance club. Mainstream 25-54 listeners (read: 35-44 money spenders) don't care about that.

If you like dance, great - I don't tell you that your station SHOULD play Foreigner or Genesis, et al. They don't fit with what YOU want to listen to.

Works both ways.

WXXY was mainstream 80's but played a few dance mixes on Saturday nights late in their existence, on Party Planet.

I think you can have both co-exist and make audiences happy.

You have to consider, CHR listeners of the late 70's were exposed to disco mixes. CHR listeners of the mid to early 90's were attacked with weekend dance mixes especially in bigger cities.

So Jack being late 70s to early 90s heavy, weekend dance night shows would be a good specialty show to attract more listeners. Same with possible New Wave and Rock shows. <P ID="signature">______________
