104.3 The Beat

Just watched and more importantly, listened to the YouTube video...a shockingly unprofessional display. The presenter couldn't string five words together before lapsing into slang and/or profanity, the video quality is atrocious, the office facility was obviously unsuited for broadcast operations...I could go on and on! Plus, as I recall, their 104.3 MHz signal didn't deliver solid coverage over their core audiences on the Kentucky side of the river-a deadly deficiency. By the way, I was NOT impressed with their sales effort when I was approached by them about having one of our family businesses advertise on The Beat.

With substandard performance all around, we're lucky this particular LMA holder is no longer in our market. If you're gonna do radio or TV, do it right! Staff, fund, equip, promote, program and sell it right and don't take your audience for granted by "dumbing down" your presentation.

Wait...the 104.3 signal is what it is. It's not the fault of the LMA holder, nor the owner, WAY-FM, nor anyone else. It's a class A (3000 watt) located north of Charlestown, Indiana due to spacing requirements with other stations.

It was that way when it was Hot 104 back in 1999, and again as the LRS simulcast and the Country Eagle and whatever else it was. You can't change it.

Now I'll tell you this- it covers Prospect and the NE area of the Louisville metro with a pretty good signal. So it's not a total loss. Someone can do something with that.

It covered enough of the audience to be a threat to WGZB in the late 90's. So much so that Blue Chip LMA'd the station just to remove the threat. Had Rene ran the station properly, it could have been a threat again. The key is to find a format that will appeal to folks in the east end. And then make prudent decisions in running and operating the station. I like the idea that King proposed in an earlier thread, true oldies R&B. 50's, 60's, 70's type R&B.

New drinking game:
Do a shot every time the presenter says,

"104 The Beat"
"We Up In Here"
"DJ Yung Stef"
"We Holdin It Down"

Drunk in 60 seconds!

I bet mainline would like to remove the threat now 98.9 poses to djx but i guess it isnt as easy as it was back in 1992 when djx got rid of kiss 104.

Is WXBC reaching Louisville now with "The Beat" off the air? I listened to it all the way to Paoli last night, and its clear as a bell here on the west side of the Knobs. I know in the past I've listened to them while on the Outer Loop.

I've picked it up (albeit, in and out) at the airport and in Oldham

Yeah, "reaching" is a good word. I heard it today in New Albany and Clarksville, Indiana along I-265, and then on I-65 South headed into Louisville. They were playing classic country, and at one point I even heard the call letters.

But it wasn't something that a listener would ever listen to. Only a die-hard radio enthusiast trying to test reception would ever listen to that.

There was another 104.3 coming in as well. I'm not sure where that one was.

Believe it or not, but at 5 p.m. you will hear "Lum and Abner." How's that for "country." Was the other signal country music or K-Love? There's a strong K-Love signal in Harrison, Ohio, and a country station from Williamsburg, KY.

I just saw the Fall '11 book for Louisville, and at this point WNRW seems to be doing fine against WDJX.

104.3 is back as a simulcast of 1570 WNDA!

Rocky does have a teaser that "something different is about to happen"... stayed tuned. So I guess this is temporary programming...... I wonder what it'll be???

Nah. Something different I bet.

I've known David for a long time. If he reuses some previously used call-letters for a totally different format, it won't be the first time. Or the second. Or the third.

David understands the value of a name.

From All Access:

COURIER COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION has requested a Silent STA for Urban WNOV-A/MILWAUKEE due to a dispute with the time broker, RADIO MULTI-MEDIA, for the station and the alleged removal of equipment by the broker.

Radio Multi-Media was the time broker of 104.3. Anyone who gives this sleaze a chance with a radio station again should be shot.
