If they're doing an overhaul, I'm a little surprised they haven't finally gone and ditched the tired old call letters.
First of all, they're not owned by Bonneville Int'l Group anymore, so there's no literal meaning to the calls.
Second, the name has a history of being an also-ran, both in its Beautiful Music and its AC days. (And no clear musical identity, since Clear Channel's been screwing around with various incarnations of the format pretty much since they took possession of it.)
Third, KBIG's tried the "name tweak" before when they brightened the music -- you all remember "Big Mix 104," right? More like "Big Mix-take"...
If the name doesn't have a winning heritage, why keep it? At this point, it's carrying more baggage than brand identity.
If Infinity had taken the same approach and kept the "Arrow" name after changing the music, nobody would have paid much attention. I'm betting that's what happens with KBIG.
