104.3 The Shark - Staff Changes....

Entercom is at it again....Deena Lang out after 5 years and by the looks of it so is everyone else but Ashley O. If you go to the website, you will see the new DJ lineup. The Cane show (Cane and Corey) from ALT 92.3 NEW YORK; Nicole Alvarez (KROQ) Mid morning; Ashley O 3pm-7pm; and Kevan Kenney (ALT 92.3 NEW YORK).

Great work Entercom - NOT LIVE OR LOCAL (Other than Ashley O). Wonder if the music will change. Maybe the ratings will go from 1.2 to 1.3? As previous posts on this board have said....104.3 THE FLOUNDER. Your ship has sunk.

Bummer, but I still give Entercom credit for at least giving it five years with a local lineup and frankly I give them credit for giving the format a chance in this market in the first place.

After the blow radio took from COVID I'm not all that surprised this happened but as the article states South Florida wasn't alone in the reorganization. So it goes...

Wonder if the music will change.

They say that the music will remain locally programmed and researched.

Field says, "I want to make sure that there are no misunderstandings about the actions we are taking. To be clear, Entercom will remain local, first and foremost ... every station will continue to have its own unique playlist driven by a continued commitment to heavy local research."

I don’t know anyone in Miami, but several friends in other markets have told me they heard legal ID's and bumpers for the flagship stations of some of those shows. That sounds to me like they were operating more like satellite, where the jock in Dallas or Denver hit a button to fire the local stations' machines, than providing drops and voiceovers for local stations' hard drives in-between their own music.

I know what Entercom said about playlists being researched and developed locally, but I have to wonder with all the sloppiness of some of the rollouts.

There didn't appear to be much overlap. Programmers were let go last Thursday. New people were assigned today. It may take some time for new procedures to take place.

This morning, I tuned in to 104.3 The Shark and heard the bumper for Alt 92.3 lol ... then right after you heard the bumper for the "2 minutes of commercials...Alt 92.3", you heard the same bumper with 104.3 The Shark.:confused:

Reminds me of the night I was listening to Big and Doc Reno was reading a kicker then closed it out with "Pink Floyd's next on New York's Classic Rock, Q 104.3."

Whoops.

It happens. At one time I worked three different stations under different names, and you know what happened. Whoops.

Re:

This low rated loser of a station needs to be tossed to the curb!!!

Miami isn't Seattle or Denver. Horrible formatical fit for the market.

Is Entercom's "crack" local music research responsible for 104.3's stellar ratings? LOL

When a music test is done, partisans of that genre of music are selected. The problem in South Florida is that there are very few partisans because the market's non-Hispanic white population is so small, and the influence of more rhythmic Hispanic taste influence the whole market, going back to Y-100 in the 70's.

Keep in mind that in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, there is no rock station. And when PR had one, it was definitely not alternative rock.

This had to be obvious to Entercom; the fact that they selected the format in Miami indicates that they are willing to accept lower shares in an attempt to cover all the non-Hispanic white population.

I think it's indicative of David Field's advocacy for the format and nothing else.

I certainly agree with the rest of your analysis, though.

Entercom has mismanaged 104.3, and I'll also note that both of their sports radio brands have never been in worse shape. I guess we'll see if football season helps that cause.

Has sports radio down here ever really been in great shape?

Has 104.3 shifted their music at all? I find myself finally listening to 105.9 more and more. The expanded playlist is great

I'm hearing more hip hop inspired stuff on The Shark plus a lot of the music they were playing when they first launched. It's a good mix in my estimation but the 2 minute breaks every few songs will take some getting used to.

790 The Ticket used to be a 1.0 to 1.5 share radio station (peak was when programming was available on 104.3 FM).

It's now a 0.2 share radio station.

Entercom has completely ruined that station!

Not quite. Since the simulcast was dropped, it has been in the 0.6 to 1.0 range, mostly around 0.7. Winter 2020 was at exactly that level, identical to Fall of 2019 and Winter of 2019. Spring is usually higher, Summer lower (I am averaging three PPM books in each case).

So the station is in about the same range (not including the pandemic months) that it has been since Fall of 2015, the first period without the FM simulcast.

I worked with Doc Reno at the job he had right before he went to Miami. He didn’t stay in touch with any of us after he left, though, last I heard, he still lived in the Miami area. I'm guessing, even though he’s probably still local, he doesn’t do his show live (or at least not very often) because he’s on so many other iHeart classic rock stations.

Are the ratings today comparable with the FM simulcast?

I figured it was a misplaced voice track, I remember at the time wondering why it didn't happen more often

The ratings "today" are just for the AM and reflect the industry-wide decline of sports stations in the pandemic. There is no comparison with the former AM/FM simulcast.
