104.5 Can't Stay Away From Changing Anything!

If you didn't look through the top story at the R-I front page, CBS Sports Radio will hit the airwaves soon...guess who gets to be one of the affiliates (a.k.a "test dummies")?

THE ZONE!

So if you're keeping score, in a 1.5 year span, one sports station will have run programming from three different networks...this reminds me of the whole "Arrow" to "Jammin' Oldies" to "The Core" to "Rockin' Hits" and every swap in between during my childhood.

I guess midway through 2013, The Zone will do one of two things:

A) Steal "Yahoo Sports Radio" from 560

B) Join the other "new kid in town", NBC Sports Radio (which will launch in September)

Thoughts anybody?

Since their owner is mandating this change and is a partner in the CBS deal, this will almost certainly be the final change.

It should be noted, of course, that the vast majority of their revenue comes from the hours that they run local programming. The national stuff is just filler on the weekends.

Doubtful. With five major sports radio networks, Yahoo! will like log out of the sports radio game, IMHO.

Yeah, I think you covered all of their formats during that time frame. I still remember one of their jocks, on his personal page on their website at the time dogging 106.7 for having four formats in four years! But of course, once 104.5 changed (again!), his page was of course taken down, so there was no way that anyone could call him on that!

Even as a sports talk station, not too long ago The Zone's personalities (namely Plaz) would refer to ESPN as an evil empire or out of touch. Once ESPN and The Zone joined forces and The Old Director was singing a different tune. ESPN must have sent Plaz dome free Disney tickets to quell his tempest in a teapot fury.
