104.5 HD2 is still Sunlight Lounge

Why is it still that? The HD2 survived Rumba and is still that format today. At least they could put the original Sunny format back on the HD2.

Yes, it is quite odd that it has lasted so long like this. Also, WISX still has Smooth Jazz on its HD2. I find this even less reasonable because anyone who wants to hear smooth jazz will go to WJJZ, which is the exact same format. Also, the smooth jazz fans who are deciding on whether to pick WISX-HD2 or WJJZ will almost always pick WJJZ, because they were all so upset when Clear Channel took the station away.

First off Nick, your signature says you don't like IBOC, yet you post about listening to HD channels and complain about the formats. I just find that interesting. I don't like IBOC either, and wouldn't be caught dead buying one of the radios. Truthfully, I don't think I'd take one if it was given to me.

Secondly, and more importantly, I can't believe your disbelief of what's on "the station's between the stations". Haven't you figured this out yet? The station owners/management don't care what's programmed on these channels for a very simple reason. NO ONE IS LISTENING!!! And, if no one is listening now, how many do you think will listen once they start running spots on these stations next year???

The ineptitude of this business as a whole is why HD will never catch on and more than likely go the way of AM stereo within a few years. The entire idea was botched from the start, from the technology itself, to calling it "HD Radio", to the marketing of the radios. Every square inch of the plan has failed miserably. If the industry could have settled on the technology sooner and launched it before satellite and internet became options, it may have had a chance to survive. They didn't, and it won't.

Another meandering thought...most of what's programmed on "regular" terrestrial stations isn't any good, so why would you expect something on a secondary programming outlet, run by the same people, to be any better?

A big reason most stuff on the main channels isn't very good is because it's over-researched, overly-demo-conscious, and loaded with spots. That's not a concern right now for the HD channels, which have no audience to speak of and run no spots.

Of course, when there is an audience, and they then add spots, it'll start to be just as bad as the main stations.

and the hd feed of 104.5 should be some kind of rock now that the main channel is rock music

and whats with the 106.1 feed being smooth jazz still

I would expect a station like 104.5 to establish a compatible HD2 format; however, I can't imagine its a huge priority considering they're still establishing the HD1 brand and 2 people outside of radio and this message board have HD radios.

The smooth jazz fans choosing between WISX-HD2 and WJJZ will 100% of the time (rounding up from 99.9999999999%) go with WJJZ because they have no idea what WISX-HD2 is and they don't even know it exists!

Clear Channel owns hundreds of billboards across the Philadelphia market - ever see one billboard for any of their HD channels? Nope! Why is that? Clear Channel will do anything to make money...except spending money to promote HD radio.

Why would Clear Channel spend money to promote HD2?

If anyone should buy billboards, its the coalition of the major companies. CC should not have to support the future of HD2 for the other companies.
