104.5 Translator Airing WXLY 102.5 From Charleston?

I was surfing the FM dial & heard Soft Cell "Tainted Love" & a station called "Y102.5" from North Charleston on 104.5FM here in Altamonte Springs. It's still on right now, playing AC or Classic Hits.

I just found it odd on a supposed Reach FM translator. What do you think is happening?

I may have the answer here....hard to explain, but here goes----

Likely, Reach FM uses another relay somewhere in FL on 102.5, and the normal 104.5 relays *it*....however there have been strong DX conditions of late, and likely the Charleston 102.5 overrode the normal 102.5, and all 104.5 did was to relay that.

Down in the FL Keys, when I DXed there last week, the 89.1 relayer of WLRN, which apparently links to another relayer on 93.3, somehow had WFLZ Tampa on it! Keep in mind that WLRN is noncommercial. ABout 2 weeks earlier, that same 89.1 (I believe) tried to use Islamorada's 92.1, and all I heard was "Mia 92.1" West Palm Beach.

Also, the WKZG 88.3 (Key West) translator on 106.9 in Marathon occasionally ends up relaying 88.3 Pennsuco/Miami.

(BTW I'd love to play around with whatever antennas these stations use!!!)

Anyway, I hope I explained it. It's a mess.

This has happened before. When they first launched the 104.5 and 104.7, it was happening several times over a few days before being corrected.

Thanks for the info, CD. I understood your explanation. I like to manually scan the dial to find random stations as well. Hopefully, one day, I will discover something exciting.

I picked up WGEX 97.3 Gen X Radio from Albany, GA last Saturday for a good 15 minutes. A station like that can work here in Orlando.
