104.7/Albuquerque - Flip Coming?

I was on the iHeartRadio Facebook page and saw a comment posted a few hours ago which reads: "Classic Country 104.7 Albuquerque, NM went off the air!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY??????????"

Not sure if there are transmitter issues, if they're stunting at this time, or perhaps the listener is having a hard time with her app... But I thought I would share. Their website looks normally functioning at this time.

Yes, They flipped to Classic Country 1984 to match the play list. ;D

Very astute, Hornet! That is one heck of a narrow age-range format. Check out KMYN 1510 on Saturday for a bit wider playlist - they went on the air today simulcasting KMIN in Grants.

Sounds interesting I'll Have to check 1510 out, i like a wide playlist.......It's exactly 12:00 midnight..I tuned in to 104.7 and to my amazement they are playing The Judds - Mama he's Crazy....Call me crazy but that's a #1 song , from, you guessed it, 1984 (April 28th to be exact) ...i kid you not check the log..

Glad that my Ipod is locked and loaded.................I can flip my own format whenever..
Maybe I should loan them my Ipod to interface in their automation sysytem.

Classic Country 1984, of course, a totally facetious comment from me. But the programming is totally boring, cookie cutter, safe, The Stepford Wives of programming. And when you do hear something form the 70's , "Lukenbach" and "Mama's don't Your Babies" are the equivalent of "Wipeout" and "It's My Party". And then of course let's hear Kenny Rogers "Lucille" which has probably hit 8 digits of play time by now...yawn. In all fairness it's probably conglomerate programming, with a local figure head.

1984 comment was funny.
There are at least 3 problems with this market. One is that there is way too much Radio, second ,its to easy for the PDs to let their automation systems pick and shuffle the tunes. And third the playlists are controled by inexperienced and
scared corporate types, that are afraid to take chances.

Yes I Agree....checked out 1510 per Abq/Radio recommendation...it is indeed a huge playlist, I haven't listened enough, I am kinda liking what I am hearing...One thing for sure , I have better chance of hearing Jack Barlow/ aka Zoot Fenster "Man On Page 602" on 1510 than 104.7 (just kidding, but true). Again in all fairness, Indy stations are gonna have the better playlists, it's not a level playing field.

I heard on 1510 the original 78 version of Tennesse Waltz by Patti Page, at least I think back in 1951 they were on 78rpm on the Mercury Label.

There is always an exception,thankfully.
107.5 Oldies is doing a nice job.

When I got in the biz,(1966)there was Am,a few FM s,live events and record stores,8 tracks soon appeared thereafter. As a 16 year old PD and Music director In a small market,I played the hits, unknown Artists now called Indies, one hit wonders, local artists and requests..Ratings were not a big deal until a few years later....Radio station automation systems were reel to reel and limited.I did not like the automation systems and knew that it would only be more widely used as time went by.It sometimes reminds me of the unmanned checkout stations at Home depot.
Different thought. Now we have so many music delivery systems that its mind boggling.A Radio friend of mind created www.superoldies.com with over 3,500 tunes.Internet Radio and U tube has changed the game. These folks are immune to ratings pressure. My USB drive has access to 30,000 stations most with expanded playlists. Its called MUZEE.......The times are changing..

I was listening this morning to a local program, at about 11:15 am I won't mention what station ,It wasn't a country station ....I noticed that the announcer was playing the Van Halen intro to "Happy Trails", which I thought was odd, for this station...and he proceeded to recall that today is the anniversary of the debut of the "Gene Autry" TV show circa, what, 1962 maybe, and the co-star was Pat Butrum, and then he admitted he was playing the Van Halen version because he couldn't find the Gene Autry version.....by this time my laughter turned to amazement........it is now 12:35 and he is probably still looking ...%^$@$%^& ...for the Gene Autry version and he never will find that, because........

Albuquerque radio spectrum use is redundant and for the most part programming is boring.
I will contact Obamasan and see if he can cancel some licenses and sell the spectrum.
We could use the money to calm down Asian markets,or better yet give the money to China.

So what makes ABQ spectrum so redundant as opposed to any other city of this size. I am not sure I like the heavy reliance on classic rock and oldies. But the spectrum here is the same as in almost every other city this size.
