104.7 Crashing on Autopilot

There's Rocco and the Pirates.

The thing about 104.7 is who would you take off to put local talent on?

Would you sack the nation's most popular talk show in Rush Limbaugh? The most talked about in Glenn Beck? The second most talked about in Sean Hannity? Michael Savage, the third most popular?

I could see perhaps filling the time slot that Beck is replayed on, but that's usually taken up by the Bucs, anyway.

I wouldn't mind hearing a talk show from a local conservative on the show. But where do they fit?

I've become convinced over the years that people just don't care about local anymore for the most part.

Look at TV... people get their local weather from The Weather Channel, they look for their local pro teams' highlights on ESPN, watch CNN for a lot of their news. They just want the most entertaining presentation from the most talented host, and that will usually be the national product.

But with conservative talk in particular, local's no real big draw. Quinn doesn't localize his show at all, and local issues aren't often driven by the same wide left-right chasm as national issues.

Oh, question for you all. 104.7...besides Jim Quinn, is anything broadcasting from that is station live and local? Is even the local news for Pittsburgh even read from Pittsburgh?

They also have some weekend programming that originates from their studios, including a paid-program host who is on both of our stations.

I believe the news originates from the CC cluster in Cleveland, and as far as I know, it always has.

They used to have Ellis Cannon on in evenings doing local sports talk. They removed him a couple months ago and put Michael Savage in his place. Savage was already on the lineup on a delayed basis after Ellis' show. In that slot now is Jerry Doyle on a delay. Both Savage and Doyle are part of Talk Radio Network.

Say, could someone from DVE run over and reset the automation or is it all done in Cleveland?

I can't help but crack up laughing on that! ;D ;D ;D ;DSomeone from DVE run over. Please! Stop! My sides are hurting.

From what I hear, the day someone from DVE helps out hell will freeze over.

I dont get what the problem is. These things are supposed to be so simple a money can do it. I can understand if it's a new system and they're still working out the bugs. I can also understand if the computer takes a dump, but if someone is listening to the station there should be somewhere there to answer the phone so you can tell them there's a problem.

The problem is they just don't care. They don't have to care since they own almost every station. They would run dead air 24/7 if they could keep cashing checks.

If no one cares and no one is checking, does that mean they are actually billing sponsors for spots
that supposedly ran but they were really in dead air? That could present a bit of a problem.

That is exactly what it means and they will get away with it just as long as they can. It's not like they have many local sponsers that actuly are here to monitor their adds.

They don't have enough people left to make it work.
