104.7: Should they look at KJUL's format?

I know, it has a horrible signal, but will the old people still put up with it?

In any event, 104.7 can't stay as a 2nd country outlet since 104.3 just took that hole.<P ID="signature">______________

Not a bad idea. Since the 104.7 signal is so limited I would simulcast it on their sister station AM 1280. Picking up KJULs old format is the rare chance for this combo to get some type of an audience.

I saw in Norm's column that Beasley GM Harry Williams said he would not be surprised if nobody picks up adult standards. It could be gone forever.

Won't help my retired friend in St. George. Says he's looking into XM.

Mesquite move-in/Norm/KJUL standards salute

Here's a scenerio your friend in St. George would like. Isn't Simmons Media supposed to be signing on a new move-in from Mesquite soon? Maybe they could go standards? Afterall, everything else is taken with the exception of CHR/Pop.

I heard on good authority that Beasley's Harry Williams would not be surprised if another station goes standards. Either Norm quoted him wrong or there was some type of confusion in the wording.

While I understand that standards is a tough sell to advertisers, I feel the pain of anybody who will miss KJUL. They were a cooler station than people gave them credit for. Just from listening to them casually/occasionally through the years I really gained an appreciation for artists like Perry Como and songs like "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck. Another one of my KJUL favorites was the Brasil 66 version of "Scarborough Fair". What an arrangement and that female vocalist sounded so damn sexy, nobody recording today can compare to her.

KJUL even made me re-evaluate songs I thought I didn't like. For example, "The way I want to touch you" by Captain and Tennille. When it was a current I was a kid and I thought it was boring. But when I heard KJUL play it I realized what a great song it was, so hook filled, yet so subtle that it hits you over the head latter when you least expect it.

KJUL was a unique and wonderful radio station. It was a station that made the Las Vegas radio landscape different from "anytown USA". KJUL early 90s-2005 RIP

Re: KORK AM Gianni Russco

Try KORK in the early 80's, retro without
trying to be. With the mobbed-up restaraunter
& actor Gianni something doing a live show
from his club. Plenty of Sinatra, Martin,
& Davis, plus wise guy chatter with 2nd
stringers like Paul Anka. Absolutely hilarious.
