104.7 sounding more like 107.9

Has anybody else noticed that K-104.7 has adjusted their music? They sound more like 107.9 now than 102.9, IMO. They canned all of the 70s music and some of the 80s. More new/recent stuff. When did that happen?

I just heard these songs back-to-back on K-104.7

Enrique Iglesias (No Pitbull) - I Like It (2010)
and then
Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart (1983)

That makes no sense and those songs don't even mix well. ???

K-104.7 lacks the personality of "The Link". If 107.9 plays something I don't like I'm more inclined to stay with them because there is also the personality element.

As for the two songs not mixing well. I hear you but I wonder if the average listener really cares?

I thought this was just happening at night. I'll have to see whether my bank is still using them for background.

But I heard some really off-the-wall stuff. "California Gurls" followed something that was even worse. I don't remember the lyrics but some words kept getting repeated. I'll know it when I hear it. And one night the Lady Gaga song with "ra-ra ah-ah-ah-ah."

No, they have this sound all the time.

I wonder why they changed it? They weren't doing that badly, and were pretty neck & neck with Lite 102.9. I'd rather go after them than The Link. The AC battle in Charlotte wasn't really getting anywhere, though....seemed like neither Lite nor K got an edge on each other that lasted.

Probably in search of the coveted younger demographic.

Wow I actually heard "Usher & Pitbull - DJ Got Us Falling In Love" on K104.7 Last Night.
It doesn't fit on K104.7 at all, especially Pitbull rapping. They should rebrand from "Charlotte's Cool Music Station."
They're trying to appeal younger but at the same time I'm sure alot of loyal listeners are pretty upset in this new direction.
K104.7 still seems to play plenty of 80s songs lately, at least 2 per hour.

Their attempt sounds a lot like My 102.5's recent adjustment, but I like My's attempt a lot more.

At least they did something different...I mean, 2 AC stations in the same market is pretty boring.

And 3 is even more boring.

I wonder if 107.9 is going back to Hot AC - Hot Chelle Rae 41x a week, and Pumped Up Kicks by Foster The People 13x a week - still only 6-7 currents though

Yeah, I think they could do alright as a conservative Hot AC instead of AC like they had been doing...was there room for 3 AC's in market #24? I don't think so...
I think Foster The People is a pretty new add for them.

The Link's music kinda reminds me of WMYI as well, but with heavier spins lately. I think Lite 102.9 has done a good job musically of positioning themselves as an upbeat, variety-based mainstream AC.

Wasn't K 104.7 on top of Lite 102.9 for a good while? I know the last two Lite is on top of K.

So when did this big change in music on K happen? As this makes Lite 102.9 LITE which someone also said in this topic.

Was comparing K 104.7 to a couple other AC's. It almost seems as if K 104.7 should rebrand as Fresh 104.7 "Charlotte's Fresh Music Station". As K isn't playing much older stuff such as; Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, etc. A good example of how K currently sounds is to look at Fresh 102.7 in New York.

I think K 104.7 should go back to their old sound as they don't want to compete with KISS 95.1 now do they?

I like the idea, and they have the WCFS calls :D

I don't know why they didn't change the name. Last time I heard K-104.7, it was less than impressive. Lite has a better presentation and sound, IMO. The updated K-104.7 could play a little more new stuff.

Oh yeah the WCFS calls that were once used on Fresh 105.9 Chicago. Would work well on 104.7 if CBS did rename it Fresh 104.7

But if that did happen and 104.7 started adding more new stuff and sound just like Fresh 102.7 New York I have a feeling it would hurt KISS 95.1 somewhat. As KISS won't go more rhythmic due to Urban Power 98.

A good example is St. Louis where Y 98 is the Hot AC and Fresh 102.5 is AC. You would think KEZK would sound just like Fresh 102.7 NY but it doesn't as KEZK sounds more like a AC to not compete with Y 98. Same thing is done in D.C. and Baltimore with Fresh 94.7 which leans Hot AC-Rock while 101.9 Lite FM is AC.
