104.7 WELJ

104.7 WELJ is now Hot AC. They switched sometime today. Last night, it was still simulcasting 980 during the election results. It is NOT a simulcast of WPLJ/New York, at least right now. It is claiming 10,000 songs in a row non-stop.

Then that would defeat the purpose of Citadel bending over backwards to not only get call letters similar to those of WPLJ, but call letters that rhyme with WPLJ.

So after they blow through that "10,000-songs-in-a-row-commercial-free" (and by the way, isn't this routine getting old? I know you're trying to grab listeners' ears, but come up with another number... 10,470 songs in a row would have been more appealing... No wonder radio is low on creativity...), will they start simulcasting WPLJ at that point? Why wait 10,000 songs to present the real identity that the station is going to possess to your listener?

Citadel blew up an FM talk station for this?

I think the 10,000 songs in a row is more of a sales thing. They need time to get their current advertisers to sign onto the new format.
