104.9 FM to change format Monday at Noon

That was on Radio Insight, when I initially thought that iHeartMedia already had a deal in place, with the new owners commencing an LMA when the stations flipped on Monday.

The RadioInsight article (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/121588/alt-102-9-tacoma-flip/) was pretty clearly speculative:

"By flipping on Monday it is possible that iHeart found a buyer for KFNY and KTDD ready to begin operating via LMA."

When Lance knows something for sure, he says so. When he's speculating, he says so. "It is possible" is speculation.

I understand that it's speculation, although I have to say it was a surprising move for iHeartMedia to use placeholder formats on the stations they're about to sell off.

To me, it looks like future plans with the KUBE/ALT formats (as much as the now iHeart trademarked KUBE/ALT names.) Hence, the placeholder formats.

The oldies KMCQ 104.5 when it was sent to Seattle was a placeholder. It got a lot of buzz, even appearing in one 6+ month at a very respectable number. But appeared in no more after that.

iHeart to buyer: "What format are you planning on those frequencies"?
Buyer: "Smooth Jazz and Christian"
iHeart: "We can do that, we'll put it on before the FCC approval"

What is so hard about that?
