104.9 Gives Up The Fnk

Also from http://www.nwbroadcasters.com

11/28/10 - Rimshot Seattle market KFNK-FM 104.9 Eatonville, which moved November 10 from The Funky Monkey to '90s-based Gen X 104.9 has changed call letters to KSGX-FM.

Actually, I think the change of calls is important in that it does "telegraph" the long term intentions of Clear Channel. If they were stunting with the GenX deal, then they probably wouldn't bother with the calls.

Not true. The name of a station is a bigger deal than the call letters (unless you use those calls letters to specifically identify yourself).

I don't think Clear Channel is in the business of changing names of its stations just to float the idea around.

"Seattle's Gen-X 104.9" Just came out of Getting Jiggy Wit It with a liner about ".... and parachute pants, what were you thinking?" I'd say that ship has sailed. (parachute pants in 1998?)

It's a market research thing. Even when you and I know parachute pants were history by 1985, I think some people confuse those baggy "relaxed fit" jeans for parachute pants.....Then there's the Arsenio Hall/MC Hammer look of 1990. Don't know if it's a holdover, but that might also be what some people are thinking of.......

Generation X was a little wider in years than just 1998.
