104.9 "The Fish"

So I was on my way home scanning through the dial and came across "The Fish" where "Solid Gospel" was...it got explained a little while ago:

"A stronger signal for Murfreesboro at 104.9!"

1. THIS WAS AN OBVIOUS MOVE TO GO UP AGAINST K-LOVE!!!

2. Me thinks The Fish has too many signals now, and in a perfect world Salem would sell 93.7 to EMF to create an Air 1 affiliate, but I'll settle for Hippie Radio getting blown up for it, or even 1240 AM or 1380 AM

(I JUST REALLY WANT AIR 1! Knoxville has both K-LOVE & AIR 1, WHY CAN'T WE?)

In a perfect radio marketing world, EMF would have research that would help them understand that Air1 afternoon man Brandt was extremely popular in the Nashville market when he held down mornings on WAY FM, and place Air1 on 97.1 in the first place in order to capitalize on said popularity. But nooooooo, gotta put the flagship format on there.

So WBOZ 104.9 is now simulcasting the Fish you are saying. I am not in Nashville so I listened to their online stream and the ID at the top of the hour 12 minutes ago only said WFFI (93.7) and WFFH (94.1).

If WBOZ is now simulcasting they have not yet updated their ID.

Sure enough, you're right. I just turned on 104.9 and playing the fish. 3 Salem signals coming in, 0 Way...for now. I figured 94.1 covered the boro pretty well. If I remember right, I have better luck getting 104.9 in Gallatin than 93.7 or 94.1 due to interference on those channels.

Why do you want Hippie Radio "blown up"? I say leave it alone, and let those of us who actually appreciate it be able to enjoy it!

WOW.. Salem drops the SG Format in Nashville (the flagship of the network) -- Naturally they can still have a network without a flagship [Solid Gospel was not pulling great numbers in Nashville anyways for Salem].

My guess with this move means that Salem is very desperate to ensure that KLOVE does not capture any of their cume..

From the observations of an outsider, (yeah, I live in Forest, MS, an earshot of Jackson, MS) EMF would have been better off putting Air-1 on instead of K-Love. I listened to streams of the competition in Nashville, and Way-FM and The Fish play the same music as K-Love. Unless EMF can do what they did a number of years ago with Jon and Sherry Rivers when they did mornings on K-love, and bring in some of the talent that Nashville produces in the CCM genre, they are not going to compete with the Fish and Way-FM very long. Bragging rights are not enough in this case.

Yeah -- Personally I would listen to wally on way fm any day over what KLove does in the mornings.

In the real world, Brandt had really tiny numbers, just like the rest of the folks on WAY FM. Not saying they don't have talent, but calling them "extremely popular" is like calling them "the tallest midget."

And to the poster thinking Salem would get rid of one of the FISH signals: the whole point is they need at least a 3rd signal in the simulcast to get closer to covering the entire 8-county metro because they deal in relatively cheap little signals, some of which were never intended to be Nashville market-wide in the first place. They were pillaged from surrounding communities and moved in for the purposes of the "broadcasters" and to the detriment of those communities.

I'm interested in seeing what happens. Personally, I like WayFM the best, but their biggest "competitor" is their signal and too many self promotions! I'm so sick of hearing about the "secret keeper girl." While I like Way the best, and then the Fish and/or KLove, there's one BIG thing that may determine the ultimate winner and that's which one I'm listening to right now, the ONLY one I CAN listen to - KLOVE. The ONLY office listenable signal - and I'm in 100 Oaks area! I hate to see classic hits go, but am very excited to finally listen to this format in the office. KLOVE sounds better than I remember actually.

I don't know that Solid Gospel has ever had a strong enough signal in the Nashville area to really be competitive. I live in Pegram, and I believe that I am at the easternmost reaches of the 105.1 signal coming from Waverly. I can pick it up here okay, but I don't believe the signal is strong enough to stop the seek/scan button.

Way is committed to LOCAL promotions, Regional promotions and National... A Hot-AC style at promotes station image and yet involvement of listeners in the Ministry realm... Fish is pro... K-Love is pro, but more national in approach....(as their younger demo on Air-1)....
