1040 on a roll

I hear the improved sound with new news anchors and the new afternoon guy.
I also hear commercials saying positions there are open.

What's up? Their on-air sound has changed for the better now that the blowhard Hannity moved.

I just wish their signal improve.

I am VERY impressed with the product coming out of that station. The afternoon guy is getting better. (although I bet he bolts as soon as he gets another TV gig)

The news is excellent, I love Boortz. Wow, if only the morning guy would start working on his show again it would be super.

I think they're great too. Sounding much more like a local talk station should. The right mix of syndication, too. I know they need some syndication, to pay the bills and remain competitive.

Boortz can be overbearing. They could stand one less hour of his show and perhaps run O'Reilly live. But that would leave a void from 2 p.m. forward.

I don't agree (friendly disagreement) with your comment on Tampa Bay veteran Mark Larsen. His show is okay and he does a good job. I imagine it's hard doing a morning drive show on your own.

I can pick up WWBA-AM 1040 really good up here in north florida big bend area during the daytime hours. It's not a bad station.. I am in Crawfordville Florida.

the afternoon guy still sucks he hates doing 3 hours and cannot carry a show on his own. as far as positions go they are all part time 8 bucks an hour and no perks unless it's in sales. i know people that work there and are trying to move up and are hoping for something besides hot air and empty promises which seems to be the norm for 1040 and 1470.
they don't even reward their best people. i know one guy that was offered a change to go to miami for the superbowl coverage and they made him pay his own way, and he was a producer for one of the sports shows.

Maduri is still Maduri. Still trying to do "family friendly" talk radio with Barney the Purple Dinosaur in the afternoons. Lots of $1 a holler commercials. A station that adopted Jacor-style 1988 tactics could set the market on its heels, but it'll never be 1040 with Maduri at the helm.

Another thought.... Why is the afternoon drive show on in the AM drive timeslot and why is the morning show on in the PM drive slot?

i think maduri really doesn't know what's going on there, i think he lets brad james run the show and is oblivious to the day to day running of the station. the afternoon guy is like some sort of god to them over there but you would never know from the numbers.

The numbers dont have much importance. what is important is spot sales. My bet is that they are selling far more local spots than before.

It's not 90s-era over-the-top Mark Larsen (which I miss, BTW), but it's a whole different style which I think he adjusted to quite well with time. He still gets to be Larsen from time to time, he still gets to bring in some of the elements of his old show (the 1st time caller bell, hump day), and it's more information-based. I really like the combination in the morning on my drive to work, except I believe it's just a tad interview heavy, as interviews generally bore me to tears.

I agree with you on Boortz. I believe the station made an excellent move in bringing his full show in due to Snow's departure to the WH. Though he's in Atlanta, his show seems to have a closer, more local feel to it than most of the other national people.

Fasulo, the afternoon guy, is likeable, smart, and has a good sense of humor. This is why I still hold hope for him. He needs to cut back on doing entire segments with ex-coworkers, next-door neighbors, and relationship experts. Again, this type of dialogue I'm not a big fan of.

I like the overall direction 1040's going in, and it seems to me like Maduri is letting the radio people do radio while he does what he does. He just needs to see about getting signal improvements.
