Turned on 1040 expecting to hear Hannity and instead found a LOCAL show. Can't recall the host(s) name, but he said WWBA was going to try a local show. They acknowledged they lost Hannity but thought local shows, like the station used to do, he said, may be a better way to go than syndicated shows.

I think this was the PD. The new host comes on later. The PD was taking calls and suggestions from listeners.

Good to hear. I think I'll tune in more often.

Hannity's hard to take all the time. I don't really listen to him. I hear nothing of Rush, but like Savage and some others, as well as 1110 on occaision.

Did you hear the dolt that is doing the show???
The former TV personality, Brian Fasulo WWBA is going in the direction of fluff news not real news.
This guy won't be able to hold a show for more than 6 weeks.

I'd be careful on judging a book before reading ... or hearing it.

This above post came BEFORE the host's show debuted... today.

I heard it. It was good. Much better than some other local talk I've heard.
He sounded like he knew what he was doing.

I'm glad WWBA is taking a new direction. Hopefully, other talkers around the U.S. will cut back a little on the oversaturation of political syndicated filler talk.

Brian Fasulo did a "preview" show last Thursday, and had filled in for Mark Larsen before that on the morning show, so people have had the opportunity to hear his act.

WWBA would have done much better to find a real radio person from another market. Learning the market is much easier than learning radio, as Fasulo's performance yesterday showed. It's not the technical glitches as much as it is Fasulo's unawareness that he's supposed to have opinions. "I don't know what I think about that" is death for a radio talk host.

Fasulo's show is bad radio. He couldn't carry a show for 3 hours without help. He brings guests onto his show to carry him through. Come on, "The Brian and Debra Shrills show"? "The Brian and my friend Scott show"? "The Brian and get me somebody on the phone that I can interview show"?
Not only that but he hates radio you can here it in his voice. It was the perfect opportunity for Genesis to have a decent live local afternoon drive time show and they throw it out the window.

The "Brian and Debbie Show." Can you say "saccharine"? Can you say "cutesy-wootsy"? Can you say "belongs on a minivan AC station"? Can you say "poison to conservative white guys who were listening to WWBA? This rivals the old "Genesis Waking Crew" for worst programming ever to air on 1040.

Guests and topics were the crutches of mediocre local talk show hosts in the 70's and 80's whose idea of show prep was reading the paper 15 minutes before airtime. If there were still dinner theatres, Fasulo would be filling hours interviewing the washed-up actors who used to perform in them.

Bruce Maduri is the Hugh Culverhouse of radio.

Give Fasulo a couple months to smooth out. Then if he is still no good, then toss him. I remember Shrills as a real hot babe that did the weather on CH 8. Agree, its like listening to a male Nancy Alexander. Now really, you dont want to go back to the Paul Gonzales approach to interview radio do you? Dont knock Culverhouse. He cried all the way to the bank. WWBA's biggest problem is their signal and the future of it. I still cant believe they built all those houses right over the ground system with guy lines running into peoples yards.

Man, talk about ignorance or convicts night out here or what?

You guys crack me up. Tear apart anyone you don't like.

Where is YOUR show Bishop? Where can we hear it so we can rip it apart like meat in an alligator's teeth?

Larsen sucked when he first went to talk. He sucked bad, but he knew he sucked and worked hard to get better. He did and had a GREAT show on FLA.

Give this guy a chance... I think he can do it. Anything is better the the M.J. and B. J. afternoon morning show.

Larsen, when he started on 970 years ago, had a great support staff around him and other first rate hosts
to learn from, as well as the Jacor brain trust who knew how to showcase compelling radio.

Fasulo has a Larsen whose current morning show sleepfest is a far cry from his 970 shows of the "Hump Day" era, Tool and Brad James, and a fundamentalist owner who will take pit bull radio (Savage and Boortz) in syndication but wants "Barney the Purple Dinosaur" on the local level. A philosophy best refuted by the words of the late Mr. Lassiter, who recalled for his listeners a program director who told him he wanted "a book full of friends." Lassiter's reply: "I WANT A BOOK FULL OF LISTENERS!" Good luck to Fasulo acquiring either in his current environment.

This isn't necessarily tearing Fasulo down as a person. The opportunities for local talk radio are rare in Tampa and most any market these days. The posters here are people who care about radio, and don't want to see such a rare opportunity messed up, as we are certain is happening under the Genesis regime.
