1045 and the you program hour

Is this show fantastic or what?, they read e-mails from listeners every weekday and play an hour of the music they like, from 11 to midnight. This is not a set up request hour, which most stations promote, you can tell by some of the obscure songs and great music that is featured. They sure break format with Metallica, A-ha, the Fixx and many others. More stations should try this... I can just see OGL with someone like me taking the controls, all British, Folk, Surf, Country and white female singers for one hour, but that would never happen. Again WRFF is the first with something totally different, plus they have the new music Sunday night. MMR and YSP just play the same tired safe rock, although I did hear SixxAM on YSP.

Oh look, RWS posted, that means it must be praise for RFF...

whaddaya know, I'm right.

Station is getting there, and has sounded a little better lately, but still too much Train and Fall Out Boy. In time I guess.

MMR has SixxAM too RWS. and RATM, SOAD Tool, Killswitch, Seether, etc

I too am a fan of the 11 o'clock "finest hour" listener playlist (viewing and voting for each nights playlist can be done here http://www.radio1045.com/pages/promo/finest_hour_voting.html, look up previous night's playlists on YES). I also liked the Sunday night show, though a lot of what they played is already in rotation on stations (such as G-Rock, and I heard the Against Me! and Silversun Pickups songs they played back in August in Myrtle Beach, SC).

As for MMR vs. YSP right now, MMR blows YSP out of the water. It sounds like YSP is playing a lot more older stuff than MMR. And I'll be damned if they don't play "What I've Done" at least 47 times a day. Always funny to hear "The Rock Is Back!" into Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" (not bashing the song, just that it isn't really the definition of the "rock" they seem to be going for).

First off...I too, dare to say it, do NOT think Tom Petty is rock! It is a personal opinion, which means nothing in radio, but Tom Petty truly sucks.

Secondly, RWS, kiss 104.5 asses all you want, and say they do a true request hour, but I guarantee they, like every station, still have control over it. Either by tweaking what the listener asked for, or by simply choosing listeners whose request fit their liking. I am quite sure I could send in a setlist they would not touch with a ten foot pole. 104.5, just like everyone else, knows this is first and foremost a business and is trying to reach a large portion of a demo to simply make money. That is it..

woah woah woah now I didn't go THAT far. Really? FREE FALLLIIIIN'. Thinking about how often they play him now, that would have been the most fitting first song for when WYSP flipped back.

The playlists they've chosen so far, a majority of the songs are songs they already play, with out-there tracks mixed in. I entered a playlist of NOTHING they currently play. We'll see if i get picked...

i put these ones in:

1. R.E.M. - Texarkana
2. Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name
3. Korn - Evolution
4. Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
5. Toad The Wet Sprocket - All I Want
6. Beastie boys - No Sleep Till Brooklyn
7. Tool - Prison Sex
8. Toadies - Possum Kingdom
9. Sponge - Plowed
10. Pearl Jam - Go

*11. Breaking Benjamin - So Cold
*12. Seether - Fake It

I cannot understand how MMR blows YSP out of the water, with that relic Robert and the school boy Cord, Jaxon is the only decent jock on board. MMR talks too much, do I really want to hear about Robert's bad back or how he helped Garcia launch his career. RFF blows both away, although I wish they would throw some Hair and Speed Metal in the mix, someone said MMR plays RATM, that is news to me, unless Weston is more liberal than Milkman can ever be. The only fly in the ointment is RFF plays RATM also, plus the token Alternative acts such as Marley, Living Colour, Kravitz and the Gorillizas. The RFF all request hour features some off the wall cuts, so they are trying. If MMR wants to be a player and Rock newer, the relic "MUST GO"!!!!!!! Have to tune in to MMR Friday night, I hear B.B. is going to throw plenty of Hair and General Metal into the format, we shall see....

MMR Beats them both, im not saying ysp or rff is bad, but come on. its the nation wide famous WMMR...more people probably listen to WMMR than YSP and RFF combined, except RFF might have the most listeners in the morning...but people are loyal to WMMR b/c they have been listenening to them most of their lives, and for the younger rockers like myself, their whole lives...as my dad says...they are the one station that would never change their format, which is why they are so successful...and my dad doesnt listen to WMMR too often he always has 102.9 or 105.7...but even he respects WMMR, hes been listening since he was a kid.

Huh? You must be mixed up here. Check the ratings RFF is the overall topdog out of the 3 main rock stations, only getting beat. The only time MMR beats them is in the morning, since P&S are the #1 morning show in Philly. However all other parts of the day MMR comes in a distant 2nd to RFF, and overall slightly 2nd to RFF.

If you're gonna go the "talk" route, yeah, Pierre is their pretty boy station mascot, been there 47 years, and apparently the listeners eat it up when he goes on and on, so the station lets him. But you have two airstaff-less stations to choose from, which is good.

Musically, you've got your own thing with Rage, but I also don't really see where Bob Marley fits into the format, Lenny Kravitz seems just way too safe, and "Cult Of Personality" should be banned from radio once and for all.

and Bam Bam taking over the Friday request show does not mean more metal, thats just dopey Klein playing off Jackie's persona and personal tastes. Since when have you heard a jock actually play what they want?

Are you kidding?! Bob Marley's been a fixture on Alternative radio practically since the advent of the format! I might come from the old school of Alternative radio, but I'd rather hear Bob Marley than either RATM or Metallica on a supposed "Alternative" station.

Well, perhaps I'm new school, but they only Marley I can really recall from Y100 is Wyclef's cover of "No Woman, No Cry" (which I'm fond of)

The same Y100 that tried to convince us that Metallica was alternative? Good as that station was at times, it wasn't the end all and be all of the format, and it did have its downsides (Metallica, Limp Bizkit, etc.). WDRE - now that was one of the great alternative stations of all time. That's what Radio 104.5 should aim to sound like - of course, that would mean playing less Lifehouse, 3 Doors Down, and that awful Hoobastank song "The Reason". Leave all of that junk to B 101.

Very well said. That would be something to get excited about!

I totally agree with MMR having loyal listeners, a relic as myself remember the Marconi experiment and early MTV jock, Mark Goodman starting the format. Before that they would simulcast WIP as WIP-FM 93.3. Then they tried the Progressive format and they took on the new calls M(etro)M(edia)R(Radio) and started the trend. Today, they are a former shell, still not in a certain direction, IMHO they are all over the place, and the relic Robert does not fit the format, how can the young people listen to him, they were not around to know what the heck he is yakking about, but they do have their loyal listeners from way back when which keeps them a contender. Their commercial load is out of control at times. I just saw some interesting reports, RFF is exploding and one of the top Alternatives in the country and that is with just music and being jockless. They sound better at times, going on a limb with great tunes but other times they are predictable, as the other two, they are a great change from the bland urbanic dial of last year. Hearing the ST's, I thought I lost you at 8:05 this morning was candy to the ears.

yes but where are these reports, you didn't even link them, how are we supposed to see that wrff is exploding when you won't link your sources. I agree wmmr doesn't stand a chance against mighty mighty 104.5, they play all the best stuff, all obscure cuts like nickelback and creed. everytime I listen it's just wow just wow. now if only they'd stop playing "token" alternative music with the hip-hop beats and fire the relic Pierre Robert the relic then I'd be in hog heaven, he talks so much I can't stand it and I start to get so angry but then I turn on wrff and it's very soothing music not at all like those other stations I can't stand, it's like my ears are being massaged by a giant set of hands, hands that are also wearing fuzzy mittens and feeding me the hershey kisses with the peanut butter in them, I love that kind.

everyone does a lot of talking about rehashing, and how the corporate suits keep putting on stations that don't mesh with philly.

yet everyone looks a DRE with rose colored glasses bc "you liked it"

any realists want to point out the WDRE had NO RATINGS??

ok ..i will
