105.3 in Hempstead changes Call Letters

Hempstead's 105.3 is now KTWL, possibly "Cattle" and a Country format? I can rarely pickup 105.3 in the Galleria area. Tried this afternoon and caught some Country music, but don't know if it was KTWL or another station. Those of you that live out on the northwest or west side should hear KTWL with a fair signal. Any format change?

If that was 105.3 looks like they are sounding like americana-country station like Lonestar fm in Victoria. I havnt caught it today, but have been getting a great skips from Houston up here near Austin these past few nights.
______________

Mike, I was flipping through stations up at my buddy's house two days ago in Jersey Village, and 105.3 was still simulcasting Lite 94.1/107.3 out of Bryan/College Station. Of course, I didn't get a chance to hear the TOH id, but I wouldn't be surprised if KEZB did break from the pentacast. This would pave the way for 94.1 out of Brenham to make the move up to 50kw as stated in their CP.
______________

My mom got an email at her business from a sales person at that station... It's going to be a new FM marketed to The Woodlands 105.3 KTWL Bob FM. They are already selling ads for thier launch on March 15th according to that email.

What do you think? You think they new upgraded CP will cover The Woodlands? Isn't the tower in Navasota or something like that?

I actually work in the Woodlands. Unless they have a new antenna going up for 105.3, Bob is not going to serve the Woodlands very well at all. The signal is extremely staticy anywhere in the Woodlands and doesn't get better until you get as far west as Magnolia, or Pinehurst.
______________

They are ID'ing as KULF Brenham, KNUZ Bellville, KTWL Hempstead, KLTR Caldwell-Bryan-College Station.

BTW, although this station has been on the air since May 2001, the KEZB call actually went back to the original CP grant in the late 80's. We waited a long time for this one to actually hit the air. Trivia question: who remembers the original format for KEZB?

Would make sense, since the 94.1 upgrade will pretty much cover the area currently served by 105.3, plus a lot more. Of course there was a lot of overlap between 105.3 and the old 94.1 signal. I'm curious to see how well the new 94.1 upgrade does at my Cy-Fair location.

The 105.3 tower is about 35 miles from The Woodlands. That's a pretty long throw for a Class C3. They are going to be dead meat unless the ultimate plan is to move the tower closer, but the proposed KPTI upgrade might prevent that. And the frequency is already subject to interference from KSMG in San Antonio when the tropo kicks up.

If The Woodlands wants its own radio station, someone should buy KVST 99.7.

What next?

Wasn't it a spanish station?

From the coverage area on radio-locator.com it looks like the signal should be strong in Cy Fair. Should be able to get a listenable signal as far south as the North Belt, maybe a little more. What strikes me as odd, is that with this upgrade to 50kw the station will be a local in Bryan and College Station. What does this mean for KLTR? Or KULF? I wouldn't think that the simulcast of 94.1 and 107.3 would continue on two different frequencies with this much strength in the market. One of the stations are bound to change formats, or simulcast the new KTWL. Then there is KNUZ. The lil' AM that usually can't, or doesn't. What on earth is going to happen to it, considering that there is a petition to move COL to Katy?
______________

......lemme try my rusty memory on this one and mention that 105.3 first hit the airwaves with a satellite-driven spanish religion/catholic leaning format.....

The tower for the proposed upgrade is the same tower they are on now! Funny though the proposed upgrade states AGL (Above Ground Level) at 220 meters but the tower is currently only 150 meters tall!! WOW, I want to see how they stretch that thing! ;) Ok ok...they may be able to extend it..but seriously..

They will go higher but drop power...down to 4.6KW (half the ERP they run now)...The 60dbu (1mV) service contour wont even cover the Woodlands or get close! For tabletop radios, you need city grade (70dbu or 3.16mV).

Here is their proposed coverage (60dbu)

and here is their current coverage:

AINT much different....well what do you expect? Trading power for height...DUH!

Si, Radio Luz.

Probably the best thing to do is to take the KRCM 1380 move from Beaumont over to Shenendoah and use that to serve the Woodlands. At least you'd be able to hear it during the daytime hours.
