105.3 is on the air in Beaumont!

After several years, KPTY Crystal Beach has made its long-awaited upgrade from a class A to a class C2 at 50000 watts from a new tower in Fannett and a new COL of Winnie. This gives 105.3 city grade coverage of the Golden Triangle and marks the area's first new FM in quite some time. As of now, it's still simulcasting "Tu Musica 104.9," but there are rumors that KSBJ will buy it and flip it to a simulcast of 89.3. Nothing against KSBJ, but I would personally rather see someone step up with local programming that fills one of Beaumont's many format holes (urban AC, rhythmic CHR, locally-targeted Spanish-language radio on FM instead of peashooter AMs).

That area desperately needs a classic country station. I always thought KKMY would have been better as a classic country. Look at how well KTHT 97.1 does in Beaumont/Port Arthur. And it is a terrible Classic Country station, but the people are desperate for that and not for 2 main stream country stations. KADY would be smart to change to classic country.

Based on what Univision has done in the past, I will say this station is up for sale.

Don't expect anything great though. Maybe Aleluya or another religious broadcaster picks this one up.

EMF (K-Love, Air 1) just recently agreed to buy KLTO (San Antonio market) from Univision, so not a far-fetched idea.

I'm praying for a hurricane to destroy the tower and transmitter. Just what we need on the air, more crap. And I suppose my part 15 transmitter won't work on 105.3 any more. ;D

Ryan, there's nothing wrong with me. You?

Hurricane no hurricane, if a tree falls in the forrest and no one is there will it make a noise and if a 105.3 falls will anyone notice??? NO LOL

105.3 no longer broadcasts in a "Forest". They now reach the Golden Triangle and there is an Hispanic market to service there.

Well if they want it programmed right so that it will make money, they need to get Trey Poston from CC Beaumont to program it, he is a genius with figuring out how best to build and program a station.

As I said earlier, we don't need this in the Triangle, kind of like the move-ins from the Triangle to Houston which they don't need either.

Here is what I don't get. Many people bitc** and moan on this board about stations moving from Beaumont-Port Arthur to Houston. Now that a station for once MOVES into the golden triangle (as opposed to moving out like always), people still manage to somehow complain?

If anything, people should be happy to get another option on the dial, even if it is religious.

Way to lower the bar. We deserve more from our local stations than home shopping and brokered time.

Ive always thought a blue collar town like Beaumont needed a classic rock station, perhaps with Walton and Johnson in the morning. Love them or hate them, they tend to throw up good numbers in blue collar markets.
