105.3 Kools Off Next Thursday

I figured the super-secret Entercom source (and why he/she still feeds me the news, I dunno; I haven't run CCRC for a year as of Friday; and CCRC has been DEAD for 6 months) wanted me to keep this on the DL, but All-Access already mentioned it. I guess it's OK to say this.

105.3 goes back to the oldies next week. It'll be like Kool 95.7 was before Katrina, except it'll be on 105.3.

Someone's gonna have to fill the 8-10 timeslot on 870 now. Will the Big Chief come to work a couple of hours early? Will they actually bring back Bill O'Reilly? Did anyone really know or care that WWL put on O'Reilly before Katrina? Where will Hannity fit in?
______________

From what I can tell I would say nah... They just got a CP/STA to use the backup LMG antenna in Gretna at 5kw (I beleive they have been at 1kw previously)on Feb 23rd.

My guess Summer at least before they are back up to full perhaps?

And this is supposed to be a good thing? The same 100 oldies they burned out last time 3 times a day and the worst morning show in town?

'Kool' Return To Oldies For WTKL/New Orleans

The Entercom FM has been simulcasting News/Talk clustermate WWL-AM since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Crescent City in late August 2005, and PD Andy Holt announced late last night that the "Greatest Hits of All Time" would return to WTKL — which takes the name "Kool 105.3" — on March 23. All of the station's veteran air personalities will also return, including Bob Mitchell and Vince Marinello in mornings, Andy James in middays and Tommy Tucker in afternoons.

Before Hurricane Katrina, WTKL aired Oldies at 95.7 MHz. The signal went dark on Aug. 29, 2005 in the aftermath of the powerful storm, and returned to service Oct. 6, 2005 with limited power. Four days later, WTKL traded homes with Classic Rock WKBU, with WTKL moving from 95.7 FM. WTKL opted to simulcast WWL as relief efforts continued in the region. ROCK ON

"All of the station's veteran air personalities will also return, including Bob Mitchell and Vince Marinello in mornings, Andy James in middays and Tommy Tucker in afternoons."

What a "power" lineup of washed-up has beens, losers, wannabe's and never has beens. Who is this veteran "star" Andy James? What a credible and dynamic addition this guy must be to their (short) list of Kool "veteran air personalities".

I agree, what a total waste of a frequency, with so many young demos begging for a contemporary format.

Bayou 95.7 should dump Walton and Johnson, find Tommy Tucker's old sidekick Dave Butz, and resurrect the BUTZ AND TUCKER SHOW(when it was on WCKW, it KICKED BOTH W&J'S AND STERN'S ASSES COMBINED)with Jay Hooks as the News Reporter(B&T were the ones who introduced New Orleans to Jay Hooks, not W&J)
Like Hooks said, if it's from Texas, IT'S CRAP.
Live and Local is the ONLY WAY TO GO....

As much as all y'all hate Mike Costello, his plan worked(he stuck it out)and now it PAID OFF.
Proof that local ownership is still the BEST FLAVOR.

WTIX FM IS THE NEW OLDIES KINGS!!!!!!!! true dat!

their tower is in port sulphur, LA. i'm sure that's the reason you're not picking it up over there near baton rouge. i think they should get a new tower closer to the city for better signal coverage, rather than that rimshot crap.
______________

Re: WTIX FM IS THE NEW OLDIES KINGS

How, exactly, has it "PAID OFF" for WTIX FM?
Not in billing... they can't keep sellers and they can't really generate any kind of revenue.
Not in ratings... there is no book till Spring (maybe) and if there is, they'll do what they always do... not much.
Not in signal, Sawtooth's right, it's a rimshot... at best.
So you like the station... that's fine.
It is nice that their is still a locally owned station hanging on. But if Mike really wants to make things "Pay off," he'd sell the station to any number of knuckleheads who'll overpay.
BTW, I'm glad KOOL is back, too. I can't pick up 'TIX most places I go.

They don't ID as wtix fm GALLIANO/ New Orleans for nothing

Would have problems with moving with WEMX in the Baton Rouge area on 94.1 and a 94.3 in the Pine Belt of Mississippi (Hattiesburg area)
