105.3 speculation

Now that the 96 Rock/105-3 The Buzz merger has become the new "Project 9-6-1" are we any closer to a clue of what 105.3 will become once the simlucast is broken. Will CC Atlanta keep the simlucast for 2 weeks to get everyone moved over or will it be a shorter time. I guess a spanish language format or rhythmic AC are the best choices but anything could happen at 105.3 fm.

Ther rumor has been here for awhile on the 96 buzz situation and it seems like the second part of that rumor is usually regional mexican. Why we need another hispanic station to me is beyond belief. Atlanta has a much larger urban audience and with fewer station but granted bigger clearer signals but just not sure why so much money is being spent on the Hispanic audience.

I will reply lightly as I wouldnt want anyone (Paul B Walker) to think that what I would say would be taken as racist, bigotry, or any such thing.
If we get another spanish station it would only be what most think that the Atlanta area needs. Gwinnett has one of the larger spanish populations and all three of our licenced frequency's are Spanish.. So in turn they think we need another one.
I know that a protest of some kind would at least prove to those above us that we dont need another spanish formatted station, I do believe there's at least something to that idea. Atlanta is more than hispanic. The new flip of 96 Rock sounds good and its way past time. If a rock station is to stay true, then it must reflect what is says and play even the new rock. I will admit Im not all that akin to
the newest rock, but most 20 something kids love it, and they do have money to spend. Now (Drum Roll) for the disclaimer:

The above comments were not aimed at any race, culture, or space alien.
If you are of any race, culture, or just from Mars, then I am making it clear
that no comments were made that were not true. Thank you for tuning in,
now back to more ENGLISH music on Atlanta's newest station .

I think that would be a prety good idea to simulcast GST on 105.3. That would also answe the Braves question for at least most of the Metro area.

"Thank you for tuning in, now back to more ENGLISH music on Atlanta's newest station ."

English music? CC's gonna go all British Invasion? Maybe throw in the London Symphony?

(Yes, I knew what you meant, Lilburn. Couldn't resist. ;D)

I think a WGST simulcast would be the smartest idea. It could put WGST back in business. But regional Mexican seems to be a reliable rumor, according to a business contact whose wife works at and is well connected at CC/Atlanta. I think going Spanish would be a mistake. Most advertisers don't realize that Spanish is a language and not a format, so an additional Hispanic station would really cannibalize Viva's billings.

WGST will similcast on 105.3

And people still won't listen.

Well, quite a few news/talk stations are either going with an AM/FM simulcast, or putting the talk programming on FM althogether. Cases in point include WTOP Washington, D.C., WHIO Dayton, Ohio, WOKV Jacksonville, Fla., KSL Salt Lake City, and KTAR Phoenix.

Why would they do regional Mexican if Viva IS mostly regional Mexican already? A purer regional format would canibalize most of the Viva audience. Also, Clear does not do pure regional anywhere, so they have no experience with the fomat.

You think 105.3 The Max will return, playing all your favorite 80's hits?

- K-Star

It would be better than what is there now. ;)

I think we should wait and see how rhythmic AC does first before people go jumping off the deep end. The early results for Los Angeles and San Francisco are not good.

I thouhgt getting 80% of the previous share and improving the younger demos was astounding in SF. LA is a different matter.

David, I was told (maybe incorrectly) that the SF monthly was only about two-thirds of the previous 12+ ...

Look at the three month rolling - it had in the mid 2's and landed in the high 1's...

Since we can't quote numbers ... let's just say (hypothetically) - a station had a 2.5 share. And the last three months were (hypothetically) 2.7-2.5-2.3 - and the station trends (hypothetically) with a 1.9 share. That would make the new month (around) a 0.7-0.8.

My math has SF under a 1.0 share 12+ and I can't imagine the 25-54s were at 80%.

I will say that I believe it can work in SF - and L.A. will be interesting to watch. A lot of VERY smart individuals involved in L.A.

Another member of the group e-mailed me, and I checked my numbers.... I had not loaded the October data in X Trends and was looking at September. Thanks to both of you for catching it.

The October number is about one SIXTH of the September oldies number in 25-54, the supposed target. It is off to as auspicious a targedt as the LA station is.

Thanks for questioning this... my number was simply wrong.

If you want to privately send me your e-mail, I will send you a PDF of the reality.

Please bring back 105.3 WMAX!! Atlanta Needs its 80's Station! If not Maybe Real Radio 105.3! But I would prefer 80's Station!
