105.3 speculation

By the sounds of the stunt, it could be a mixed language station? Who knows, I only wish WGST talent would pop back up here, and do things alot different.
But Im with Atlanta Christmas, no more Spanish Language stations.. We need some change..

They did this in Jacksonville not long ago. A stunt that lasted a few days implying several formats, in a few languages. After all was said and done, the station became an FM simulcast of a local AM, thus making the stunt completely pointless. Why would you stunt for a simulcast?

Please no Spanish Format!! Bring Back 105.3 WMAX The 80s Station!
Im Hispanic but I hate all Hispanic Music 100% So please Not Another Station Playing Crappy Music!
This cracks me up. I was flipping around the dial in the car yesterday. After going straight to WREK to test my hispanic wife's patience with whatever they are playing I went to Viva and she started laughing. It's so cheesy. There is some GREAT Spanish rock/pop music out there, but I'm sure the audience is too small to support that. I'd like to see this signal use WGST talent. Or go Jack.

It was Cox that has recently launched FM simlucasts for their AM news talkers in Jacksonville and Dayton. I dont think CC would do that here because it wastes a valuable signal so outside of the 105.7/96.7 simlucast i would not plan on any other simlucasts here. WGST has given up on 640 but I do not think relaunching WGST on 105.3 makes sense either. If they still want news/talk in Atlanta it will have a new identity since the WGST brand is ruined.

As we know, Atlanta does not have a JACK, BOB, SAM, etc. Now there is WZGC (DAVE FM), but that station plays AAA and is jocked. While adults hits is crap in my opinion, I disagree with RR and think Adult Hits could possibly happen in this market. These stations deliver pure 25-54's and low-overhead which these agency revenue driven, "bottom line" radio corporations love. Just a thought.

Adult Hits would be a SMART flank for Clear Channel. It would attack WSB-FM, The River, WZGC, 99X, and a little bit of Star 94 - none of them stations Clear Channel owns. I don't know why you would say Adult Hits is crap. The format is cheap to operate, delivers a good audience comp of 25-54... and gives the audience a large variety of music. Win-win-win in my book.

Clear has a very successful n/t in Pittsburgh on FM, where they win 25-54 over KDKA. They just started a new n/t on FM in New Orleans, and moved one to FM in Tallahassee. With AM so problematic in Atlanta due to conductivity, this usage for 105.3 actually makes a lot of sense.

I'm an old school radio guy from a personal standpoint. I like radio that's full of news and information and encourages listener interraction. Adult hits does not of that. I've never liked Adult Hits since I first became aware of JACK. If CC is looking for a short-term solution to their long-term problem in Atlanta, then Adult Hits just might be the answer to their prayers.

Radio is an intimate medium that people turn to for more things than just music. If I owned a radio station, I would not always be concerned about maximizing the bottom line but doing something that keeps people informed. I think in the day of satellite radio trying to take our turf, if we terrestrial radio people want to survive, Adult Hits is a flash in the pan that is not the answer for the long term. It's doing what we do best....keeping people informed and keeping them involved.

I thought N/T as well, although I didn't consider a wholly new brand. That does make sense, considering WGST's reputation.

One question keeps running through my mind, though... why would they launch something like that on an inferior signal? 105.3 isn't bad, but it's no 96.1.

I know this goes against my N/T guess, but if I were going to try to out News-Talk Cox on an FM, I'd only have used a rimshot if all my other FMs were winning.

i hear today that 105.3 will be regional mexican format... good move in Atlanta there are several mexican station but none of them have good signal. With this signal CC will dominate the mexican market. Soon the am mexican stations will start to disapear...

Is there really enough advertiser money to support 105.3 and 105.7 being a spanish language format. I have been running possible monikers to see if CC has registered any web addresses for 105.3 and have not had any luck.

does anybody have the 105.3 version of the switch? and also they are saying on 105.3 to listen tuesday morning for something new, but in different languages, is this a hint?

The significant Clear Spanish stations are named: Mega, La Preciosa, Enamorada, Rumba, Viva.

Checking those,

megaatlanta.com registered, but not by CC
mega1053.com free
rumbatlanta.com registered, but not by CC
rumba1053.com free
enamoradaatlanta.com free
enamorada1053.com free
vivaatlanta.com registered, duh
lapreciosaatlanta.com free
lapreciosa1053.com free

However, when viva1053.com was registered, it was done on the day of the flip.

That was thorough!

Clear uses www.lapreciosa.com for all the Preciosas. They are a network, with no local content, on over 20 stations now.
