I realize it is in a "trust" blah blah blah, but I've thought that making 105.3 a soft AC, or smooth jazz leaning station would help KYIS in regards to KMGL.

Much better than what passes for "music" on so-called "urban" stations.
I would think a real oldies format would have more mass appeal and generate more money than this really, really old format. Personally, I think it's just upper management's choice based on their own taste on a signal that doesn't affect the bottom line that much. If it "holds it's own" that's good enough for now.
